1P4 not syncing via dropbox

1Password is not syncing via Dropbox. I'm sure I set everything up correctly. I added an item to my iMac 1P, Dropbox is running OK and declares "up to date", but over an hour later it's not appeared on 1Password on my MBP.

I tried disabling the dropbox sync and then re-enabling it, but it still is not syncing! Yet 1Password on both machines says "Synced X seconds ago" But they are NOT syncing! If there's no solution to this I'll be asking for a refund from Apple.

After hours of extensive testing, re-installation, etc., it's still not syncing. The blurb says it syncs via Dropbox. For me, it just doesn't.

Hi, @nev. I'm sorry for the delay helping you with this.

Interestingly enough, I was just able to reproduce a problem with Dropbox Sync between a couple systems here. Turns out 1P4 was being denied access to the Agile Keychain on one of them. If you look at /var/log/system.log you might find messages similar to this:

    Oct 7 00:30:05 host.local 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper[5871]: 400200 [SYNC:0x7f89ebcc94c0:<OPAgileKeychainSyncer (Dropbox) 0x7f89eba30fd0>] E setupKeychainProfile | Cannot sync, failed to load keychain profile: Error Domain=com.agilebits.onepassword.ErrorDomain Code=100 "Failed to load profile" UserInfo=0x7f89ebcc6240 {NSURL=file://localhost/Users/ag/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain/data/default/.1password.keys?applesecurityscope=636237346632366463363938633335373964353939633362343562363363303233366532376464353b30303030303030303b303030303030303030303030303032303b636f6d2e6170706c652e6170702d73616e64626f782e726561642d77726974653b30303030303030313b30313030303030323b303030303030303030303261343037613b2f75736572732f736a6b2f64726f70626f782f3170617373776f72642e6167696c656b6579636861696e, NSLocalizedDescription=Failed to load profile, NSUnderlyingError=0x7f89ebce3550 "The file “.1password.keys” couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it."} Oct 7 00:30:05 host.local 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper[5871]: 400200 [SYNC:0x7f89ebcc94c0:<OPAgileKeychainSyncer (Dropbox) 0x7f89eba30fd0>] E setupAndUnlockKeychainProfile | Cannot sync: no active profile Oct 7 00:30:06 host.local sandboxd[6025] ([5871]): 2BUA8C4S2C.com.a(5871) deny file-read-data /Users/ag/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain/data/default/1password.keys Oct 7 00:30:06 host.local sandboxd[6025] ([5871]): 2BUA8C4S2C.com.a(5871) deny file-read-data /Users/ag/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain/data/default/.1password.keys

Here's what I did to fix it on that system (the other was okay):

    • Disabled Dropbox Sync
    • Quit 1P mini (from 1P mini menu), which also quit 1P main
    • Relaunched 1P main, which also relaunched 1P mini
    • Re-enabled Dropbox Sync

In testing afterwards ever change made on both systems was successfully synced between them.

Could you give that a try (maybe on both of your systems) and see if it resolves the issue? Thanks!

PS: I suggest also creating a backup using File > Backup before the other steps above.

    Hi @sjk,

I had the exact same problem. Your tips fixed the problem temporarily. The problem is back after reboot

Thanks for that info, @Gooner. Later today I'll restart the system with troublesome syncing and see if the problem returns.

Just wanted to add that I have this same problem, on two separate Macs that I've upgraded to 1P4. @sjk I can confirm that I'm seeing very similar errors in the system log - for example:

    07/10/2013 15:00:06.273 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper[536]: 400200 [SYNC:0x7fe52c2395c0:<OPAgileKeychainSyncer (Dropbox) 0x7fe52c235a20>] E setupKeychainProfile | Cannot sync, failed to load keychain profile: Error Domain=com.agilebits.onepassword.ErrorDomain Code=100 "Failed to load profile" UserInfo=0x7fe52c239690 {NSURL=file://localhost/Users/Jon/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain/data/default/.1password.keys?applesecurityscope=363862623732333665636664393065633663366331653535373931656535363239323931623062623b30303030303030303b303030303030303030303030303032303b636f6d2e6170706c652e6170702d73616e64626f782e726561642d77726974653b30303030303030313b30313030303030633b303030303030303030303035616631613b2f75736572732f6a6f6e2f64726f70626f782f3170617373776f72642e6167696c656b6579636861696e, NSLocalizedDescription=Failed to load profile, NSUnderlyingError=0x7fe52c239630 "The file “.1password.keys” couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it."}

It looks like the only way to get things working again is to disable sync, shut down 1P completely (including 1Pmini), restart it and reset the sync settings. Sync will then work OK until the next time 1P is completely restarted (so a reboot will do it, but actually it fails every time 1P reloads).

Hope you guys can find a fix for this ASAP, because not being able to rely on 1P syncing is a really serious problem for me & many others.

I am getting all error the messages mentioned in this thread, plus one that isn't mentioned above:

07/10/2013 16:56:52.720 1Password[596]: Check-in to the service 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper failed. This is likely because you have either unloaded the job or the MachService has the ResetAtClose attribute specified in the launchd.plist. If present, this attribute should be removed.

The steps in post #4 do not work for me.

    Hello,
I am having the same problem in my computer. The file "1Password.agilekeychain" that is in my Dropbox folder does not update, therefore, there is nothing for Dropbox to sync and my iphone cannot see the changes.
I hope it can be fixed.
I am using in my computer OS X 10.8.5 and 1password4. And IO7 and 1password 4.2.7 in my phone.
    Thanks.

    Regards,

I am having the same issue after upgrading to 1Password 4 this morning. I have the same permission errors that are posted above. I followed @sjk directions and things seem to be syncing correctly between my iPhone and OS X for now. I will update if it breaks again on restart.

    Greetings!

I'd like to collect a bit more information that could help get this resolved.

First, download the new 1Password 4 diagnostics tool: http://cdn.agilebits.com/dist/1P/mac/util/1Password4Troubleshooting.zip

Then unzip it and launch. Once running, click the Create Report… button and let it finish. When it finishes ignore the Create New Mail Message… button and instead do this (before or after quitting the 1Password Troubleshooting app):

    • Open a Finder window
    • Select Go > Go to Folder… from the menubar
    • Paste the following:

      ~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Diagnostics

    • Click Go

    • In that folder's Finder window open the folder (newest, if there's more than one; ignore any zip files) that looks like this:

      1PasswordDiagnostics-hostname.local-2013-10-07_17-08

Its contents will look similar to this:

    • The two files of interest there are preferences-mas.txt (1P4 MAS version) and preferences-mas.txt (1P4 web version). In one or both of those files, depending one which 1P4 version(s) you've used, look for every section that begins like this:

    • Please post all of those "syncMonitor_randomgarbage = {…}" sections here, identifying which file(s) they're from.

And that's it. Those details will help us better diagnose the problems you're having with syncing. Thank you!

@sjk here's mine. I first confirmed that sync was still failing after rebooting this morning (it was). Here is the entry you asked for, from preferences-mas.txt:

    "SyncMonitor_B16D0C8CCC1B40CEA3E6DD0B5D716ADE" = { kKeychainPath = "/Users/Jon/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain"; kKeychainType = Agile; kKeychainURL = <626f6f6b ac020000 00000410 30000000 13144140 8ee989a5 ae82b210 d1b8aa07 f6e827d2 ba07d435 ee5525f5 aad9afd7 b4010000 05000000 01010000 55736572 73000000 03000000 01010000 4a6f6e00 07000000 01010000 44726f70 626f7800 17000000 01010000 31506173 73776f72 642e6167 696c656b 65796368 61696e00 10000000 01060000 04000000 14000000 20000000 30000000 08000000 04030000 150e0200 00000000 08000000 04030000 8ffd0400 00000000 08000000 04030000 12af0500 00000000 08000000 04030000 1aaf0500 00000000 10000000 01060000 68000000 78000000 88000000 98000000 08000000 00040000 41b437d9 31000000 18000000 01020000 02000000 00000000 0f000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 08000000 04030000 02000000 00000000 04000000 03030000 f5010000 12000000 01010000 4f532058 204d6f75 6e746169 6e204c69 6f6e0000 08000000 04030000 007058ab 1b000000 08000000 00040000 41b5c15c 3c000000 24000000 01010000 34454335 35463436 2d354537 322d3343 43422d39 3042372d 43393239 37373535 45363134 18000000 01020000 01010000 01000800 ef3f0000 01000800 00000000 00000000 01000000 01010000 2f000000 00000000 01050000 04000000 03030000 00080028 c0000000 feffffff 01000000 00000000 0f000000 04100000 50000000 00000000 05100000 a8000000 00000000 10100000 d0000000 00000000 40100000 c0000000 00000000 02200000 94010000 00000000 10200000 0c010000 00000000 11200000 48010000 00000000 12200000 28010000 00000000 13200000 38010000 00000000 20200000 74010000 00000000 30200000 a0010000 00000000 01c00000 f0000000 00000000 11c00000 14000000 00000000 12c00000 00010000 00000000 10d00000 a8010000 00000000>; kLocationType = Dropbox; };
