This is a copy of a thread from the 1Password 4 for Windows category in the forum.
Hey, y'all! As you may be aware, Google changed the signing certificate for Chrome with the release of Chrome 72. Your license for 1Password 4 hasn't expired (and never will), but 1Password 4 will not recognize Chrome moving forward. We will not be updating 1Password 4 to address this. While we're happy to continue helping out with 1Password 4, we need to keep looking forward from a development perspective. We stopped selling new licenses for 1Password 4 a few years ago and it is now in the legacy stage of support. This means it will only receive critical security updates moving forward and development will continue to focus on the new 1Password 7.
We recommend upgrading to 1Password 7 if you'd like to continue using 1Password in Chrome. 1Password 7 for Windows is a brand new desktop app designed from the ground up to be fast, beautiful, and the best 1Password experience on Windows yet. It includes support for Chrome 72+ as well as a ton of new features like our updated Watchtower 2.0, All Vaults, support for Windows Hello, and much more. You can learn all about it here:
To upgrade to 1Password 7, install it from our downloads page, select your sync method on the Welcome screen to open your existing vault, and either purchase a license or sign up for a 1Password membership when prompted.
A 1Password membership is far and away the best way to use 1Password. Not only do you get 1Password 7 for Windows, you get the latest apps across all of your devices, including ChromeOS and Linux with the help of 1Password X. Upgrades are included with your subscription, so you'll always have the latest and greatest and never have to worry about upgrades again. Plus, you can enjoy all the great features of our hosted service. Of course, if a 1Password membership isn't for you, that's okay. Standalone licenses are available for 1Password 7, too, and can be purchased in your 1Password 7 app.
You can find a guide to upgrading here:

Of course, if you have any questions before upgrading, the team is here to help. Feel free to create a new thread with any questions or hop in with a comment in other threads – we've already helped a lot of folks upgrade so your questions may even be answered already.
There will come various points as 1Password 4 ages where certain things will just stop working as the world changes around it. For now, Firefox will still work fine, as will Brave, Vivaldi and Opera. If you'd like to stick with 1Password 4, you still have options for saving and filling in your web browser. With this in mind, you're welcome to use 1Password 4, but I would encourage you to give strong consideration to upgrading. The most important security update is always to keep your operating system, browsers, and apps (including 1Password) updated to the latest available version.
Most importantly, all of us at 1Password appreciate your support over the years. 1Password 7 wouldn't be possible if folks hadn't purchased 1Password 4 years ago and we're eternally grateful for your help getting where we are today. I hope you decide to try 1Password 7 and love it, but if you have any questions at all, the whole 1Password for Windows team is always here to help.
