Using a simple master password, what's the risk?

Being able to use a simple password on desktop means easier and quicker access to app and auto-fill. If the master password is different to any stored account credentials are there other security implications? Is it used to encrypt all data?

    Hi tomtom,

    Yes, the master password is used to encrypt all the data (rough simplification). So it's important for the master password to be strong. This is greatly mitigated if you have a 1Password.com account -- since the master password strength is augmented with the Secret Key. But we still recommend choosing a strong password.

    If it's getting annoying to enter your password frequently, you can visit 1Password > Preferences > Security and adjust the Auto-lock preferences. For example, you may wish to increase the timeout before locking when the computer is idle.
