Auto Fill not working

MacOS 10.14.5, 1PW 7.3.1 (via App Store), on two different MacBook Pros.

Have been using 1PW for years. Recently upgraded to 1PW 7, and it was fine, apart from not auto-submitting, and I understand why that is. But a couple of days ago, something broke.

Now when I'm in Safari, or Chrome, and on any website, I use command \, nothing happens. The 1PW mini window does not show up. There is no auto fill. If I bring up the 1PW window via other means, it shows the correct website, and if I click to auto fill, nothing happens.

Have rebooted. Have confirmed I am running the latest 1PW and Safari extension (as well as MacOS and Safari), and that the extension is enabled (and the icon shows in the browser toolbar.) Have confirmed that command \ is still the shortcut for auto-filling (even set it to something else, and set it back.)

As a lark, I looked in the system logs for 1Password entries, and here's a snippet. The message "Unable to fill because user is Read Only" appears when I hit command-.

What am I missing? Please help; it's driving me nuts.

Many thanks

D

Hi @ablegrape! Welcome to the forum!

1Password 7 is a paid upgrade, so it requires either a license purchase, or an active 1Password Membership, which is paid with a subscription. I don't think there is anything wrong technically with your 1Password app from what you wrote, so do you have an active 1Password Membership added to the app or, alternatively, have you applied your new license to 1Password 7?

Ah, got it. I'm pretty sure I did have a paid license for my previous version, and I guess I didn't realize I would need a new license.

As an aside, I did think of license issues, but since there was no error message saying "your software needs a license," just a silent failure, I assumed that was not the problem. It would have saved me much time had there been a useful message when I tried to auto-fill instead of a silent failure.

Many thanks for the quick help.

@ablegrape, you are very welcome and thank you for your feedback! 1Password 7 should have displayed a "read only" message in the main window too, not just in the logs. Was this not visible in your app?

I did not see an obvious error message. My focus was on the browser, since I was trying to auto-fill web passwords. There was clearly nothing there (e.g. a popup where I was working), but I was also looking at the 1PW mini window, and there was nothing there, unless it was really subtle. It's pretty rare that I bring up the main 1PW window, so if there was something there, I may not have seen it.

I'd strongly advocate for a very obvious error message, not just saying "you are read only," but explaining that it is a licensing issue. ("Auto fill is disabled. You are in read-only mode until you have a valid license.") If it's a popup (which would be great, since it forces me to acknowledge it), perhaps make an option to not see the error message again, in case I actually want to run in read-only mode without a license.

Thanks again for the quick help.

I paid for a license for 1password 7, I think I did anyway, if I haven't where do I do that? Mine stopped auto filling after a few months. So, this means you only have paid subscriptions. My old 1 Password stopped working. Now this stopped working. Get us to use an app and to keep on using it you pay forever. Software is no longer sold, only rented. 20 pieces of software 20 rents to pay. So, ag_ana, how do I pay for a "license purchase" as you stated as an alternative to a membership? Or is that not true and you must pay $48 per year, or $36 per year for infinity.

Hi @mark_Solaire! Welcome to the forum!

If you paid for 1Password 7 already, there is no need to purchase another license. But if you don't know what you purchased, we will be happy to help you with this. To avoid sharing your purchase information here, can you send us an email to support+forum@agilebits.com from the email address that you used to purchase the license so we can continue the conversation there?

After you have sent the email, please feel free to post the ticket number you received so we can locate your message and get back to you as soon as possible.

    Looking forward to your message!
