Did not update existing entry with new password

I just updated a password on a site saved in 1Password. On Safari Mac OS. All the latest OS and software updates. When prompted by 1Password, I chose "update existing login". Now I have two 1Password entries for that site! One is my original entry, the other is a new entry, but it only contains the password! What good is that? Why would a password manager ever create an entry that isn't a login? Saving logins is the the whole job of 1Password! And why didn't it simply update my existing entry, like it said it would?
Worse, when I log out and go to log back in to the site, 1Password only displays the new, faulty entry that contains only the password!

1Password Version: 7.6
Extension Version: 7.6
OS Version: OS X 10.15.5

Hi @disgruntled99! Welcome to the forum!

Our developers are aware of a bug that could cause a duplicate password item to be created during this process. In the meantime, if your Login item updated successfully, you are free to delete the duplicate password item :+1:
