Some apps block pasting passwords

This isn't about 1password, per say. I'm not a complete dummy - I know that this is done by the creators of the app/website, probably for some security reason. But does anyone know why certain websites/apps disable pasting passwords on iOS devices? It seems so arbitrary; the Citibank and Chase apps allow you to paste passwords into the login screen, but others don't.

    I've heard that it is done for "security reasons", but that's the most I've ever gotten from any of the companies. Obviously it is more secure to use a password that is so long that you can't remember it (or easily type it by hand), so…

    It's just one of those silly things companies do to increase security theater while making life more difficult for people who are actually doing the right thing. :S

    This is what we're up against, but I've seen at least a couple apps change this when pressed by 1Password customers.

    While we don't have any control over the apps or the intent of the websites, the good news is that 1Password's built-in browser fills passwords directly (on websites). No copy. No Paste. No problem. :)

    Sorry I don't have a more satisfying answer. You'll need to ask the companies that do that, but I suspect you won't get a very satisfying answer from them either.

    Thanks for the response - I wan't alerted that there had been a reply. I think I'm going to start to mention this to app developers. Maybe deduct a star on my reviews, explaining that this is the reason. Probably won't get things changed, though.

    As someone who works for a software company with apps on the App Stores, I'd recommend against using "hostage stars" to affect change. It's better to just rate the app honestly and email the developer about your concerns.
