Category differences between iOS and Windows

I just purchased the latest iOS version of 1Password for my 128GB iPhone 6Plus, including the “pro” in-app upgrade, which includes, as you know, additional categories and their equivalent icons. I also just purchased your Windows desktop version to use it on a Windows PC (Win 7), and I have both set for Dropbox syncing. I’ve been testing the functionality before moving all my SplashID entries (>350) over to 1Password, but I’ve found that when I add a “test” Social Security entry on the iPhone (which has an icon that looks like a SS card) for example, when that syncs to the PC, the icon has completely changed! In addition, NONE of the “new” types or categories of entries that appear in the “pro” iPhone version appear available in the Windows PC version. Frankly, this is UNacceptable! What good is the pro upgrade in the first place and if one can’t sync the “pro” features over (including the additional icons), what good is the (rather expensive) Windows PC version?!?!?!?!?!

I am VERY disappointed, to say the least. I’d welcome your response before posting very negative reviews.

@rlt‌ On Windows, we have the exact same item types as on iOS, but some of them are grouped in "Wallet" or "Accounts". Your SSN item should be under "Wallet".

    Hi @rlt‌,

You'll probably want to export and convert your data to get all the SplashID categories imported into 1Password for Windows. And then you can sync them to your phone.

    Hi @rlt,

I hope that the above responses have helped you. I'm sorry that you're feeling frustrated with 1Password right now. We are working to ensure that the categories of items are consistent across all platforms - I can see how it might have been a bit confusing to not immediately find your Social Security Number.

Please let us know if you have any other questions about 1Password, we're here to help!

svondutch is WRONG! While I did find SS is under "Wallet" in the Windows version, its icon is STILL COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the iPhone icon for the SS card. Also, several of the other category types have DIFFERENT icons between the two versions. In addition, some categories in the Windows version do NOT appear as types in the (expensive in-app purchased) iPhone version (for example, Amazon & Internet Provider are NOT available in the iPhone version). So to conclude, the above responses are not only wrong but WORTHLESS to me, and at this point I've wasted $50 on your apps & program!

It does not seem worth it to buy a 1Password.

A little melodramatic don't you think? Some small interface differences aren't worth getting that worked up over and they hardly make it worthless!

Incidentally, the differences in categories are because all of the platforms bar Windows are using their newer format which has LESS categories. I would assume that they reduced them because most of the removed old categories got little use as they were somewhat specialised and can be handled equally well as a login.

Windows can write out the newer .opvault format files (and the UI adjusts accordingly) although to the best of my knowledge this functionality is not officially supported yet.

    Hi @rlt,

If you are not happy with 1Password, we will of course honour our 30 day guarantee and refund your purchase price. I am so sorry that the differences between categories are so frustrating to you. Unfortunately, updating 1Password for Windows to match the iOS and Mac categories requires a complete re-write of the database - it's no simple feat. So I can't promise you that we'll have everything matched up soon, but it is something that we are working towards.

for example, Amazon & Internet Provider are NOT available in the iPhone version

Could you please tell me in which category you saved these items?

    Hi @Nurinai,

I'm sorry to hear that you don't think that 1Password is for you. I'm curious to know if you're basing your decision solely based on this forum discussion or if there's anything else that is not looking awesome to you. I'd love to discuss this with you further!

No, Megan, I am not satisfied with 1Password at all, either the iOS version or the Windows version! To advertise that the two are completely compatible and interactive with each other is frankly dishonest (false advertising)! So how do I go about getting a refund for the Windows version ($49.99). I'd also like to get a refund for the in-app purchase "pro update" on my iPhone as well because the deficiencies will preclude using either one. If I can, how do I go about getting that $9.99 refund from the Apple app store as well? I fully agree with Nurinai, and I must say that both SplashID and mSecure utilities are MUCH superior to 1Password and have fully working collaborations between the mobile versions and the desktop versions with none of these (now admitted) 1Password inconsistencies and deficiencies. Megan, you don't need to post my refund info publicly and can just send that information directly to my email address. Thank you.

rlt‌ has obviously made the decision to stop using 1Password, but for other users finding this thread I should point out that you can today get the same categories on iOS and Windows, if you create your vault on Windows and choose opvault instead of agilekeychain. The Windows application will still group categories in Wallet and Accounts but you won't see older categories like Amazon Web Services and Generic Accounts.

If you are using the older agilekeychain format and create an item from these older categories, they will show up as Logins on platforms that uses the newer category system. If you edit such an item, they will sync back as Logins to Windows as well.

    Hi @rlt,

I'm sorry to hear 1Password wasn't the right product for you. As requested I'll be sending you a private message momentarily, but for anyone else reading, if you would like to request a refund from Apple you may do so here:

Please note that Apple's official policy is that all sales are final.

    Thanks.

    Ben

@rlt @bwoodruff @megan @RichardPayne @Xe997 I'm currently adding a setting where you can toggle the Wallet and Accounts groups in the Windows version. When they are OFF, then Windows will display ALL the item types in the sidebar (and not group them in Wallet or Accounts). Also, I have asked our excellent designers to synchronise the built-in icons across all our platforms. Thanks!

This always seems to be a problem with users using multiple platforms, never with 1Password for Windows only users.

Rather than a half way house like that, is it worth doing a "Mac Emulation" setting that, in addition to flattening out Wallet and Accounts, also reduces the categories down to ones in opvault, including conversion of the old unsupported agilekeychain categories to logins.

Basically, a mode that make it interoperate with all of the other 1Password platforms in a seemless way. I realise that it is more work than what you're proposing, but it present 1Password as an overall product in a much more integrated and consistent way.

@RichardPayne Here's the thing I am afraid for. If we compare every pixel, then we are creating einheitsbrei apps. Einheitsbrei apps are sub-standard on every platform and don’t take into account the little, loved by users, elements of the platform they are running on.

@RichardPayne Slowly but surely, we're phasing out agilekeychain in favour of opvault. I'd rather not spend a lot of time on agilekeychain, knowing this problem will solve itself once we move to opvault.

My personal view, and one I've seen repeatedly on these forums, is that if a feature is worth having then I want it on all platforms. Anything else involves having different work flows. Different interface chrome is one thing but having different workflows makes it hard.

That's fair enough I suppose. I know Windows already supports opvault and that the other platforms use a very similar format internally, so I must admit I'm a little bemused at the length of time that it's taking to get it supported, even if only in beta form, across the range.

@RichardPayne Agreed. I believe the problems reported in this discussion are mostly about interface chrome.

@RichardPayne We're waiting on Android. The Android team has a lot on their plate, and they are adding lots of amazing stuff.

I have to disagree here. I think that the categories that items sit in are most definitely a part of the work flow.

Far enough. I can't say that opvault support is a higher priority that the in-app filling that they've just implemented. The lack of that was killing 1PfA in comparison to the competition.

@RichardPayne You're right, and this is why I'm deprecating Wallet and Accounts in the Windows version. As for the other problems in this discussion, I believe they are mostly about pixels.

    Hi @svondutch ,

Thanks for the update with respect to categories, I think that will be very helpful for our cross-platform users. :)
