Secret / Hidden Vaults

I can see that there has been various discussion around the use of Vaults, and it seems that many people want to use them in a different way than Agilebits had initially intended. However, I haven't seen anyone mention the way that I'd like to use them, so I thought that I'd describe this in the hope that it can be taken into account during product development discussions.

One of the benefits cited by Agilebits is in easing the estate planning process. I would like to be able to leave my 1Password master password in my will, but to be brutally honest there are some websites I use which I don't want my nearest and dearest to know about. Yes, porn.... ;-). I'd like to have secret / hidden vaults for storing these which are only visible when you enter a separate password. Or if that is not possible, then other vaults (I can call them "test"!) which can be visible, but can't be unlocked without a separate password (yes, I get the irony of the product being called "one" password....). I can then rest assured that upon my death all the log-ins my family will need can be available, with the porn ones will never be accessible.

A short-term workaround would be to put all my normal log-ins in a secondary vault, and share that password, with the secret stuff in the primary vault. However, as secondary vaults can't be synced via iCloud that's not very practical.

I'd be very grateful if this could be considered for future releases.

Thanks in advance

    Hi @funseeker,

I suspect we won't see hidden vaults any time soon I'm afraid but the ability to keep secondary vaults locked separately to the Primary one is a request we've seen before. I shall certainly add your vote to this feature request.

Enter the passwords manually in those instances. That will provide you with 100% assurance that no one will ever see them.

@funseeker: Indeed, secondary vaults are the way to go when you want to keep some data separate.

Regardless of the reason, compartmentalizing things can make security and privacy a bit easier, in case it becomes necessary to share a subset of your 1Password data with others. Check out the guide, and be sure to reach out if you have any other questions. :)
