Why aren't there investment account templates? [Custom categories are on our feature requests list]

The primary reason I switched from LastPass was because I wanted to have a rich desktop client with more customization for my needs - so it comes as a bit of a surprise that 1password has no templates for investment accounts, just bank accounts. And unless I'm mistaken, I can't create a template on my own - I don't see how to add that. Am I missing that piece?

  • @jasondunn - I'm sorry but you cannot create a custom category in 1Password. We have lots of requests for this and I will add your vote. You can add custom sections and custom fields within a section and we have a guide on this here.

I can't create a template on my own

@jasondunn Here is a workaround you might appreciate:

    1. Create a new bank account
    2. Delete the built-in fields that aren't relevant for you
    3. Add custom fields for your investment accounts
    4. Create a new folder named "Templates"
    5. Drag-and-drop your newly created investment account item into this folder

Now when you need a new investment account, you can follow these steps:

    1. Click on the folder named "Templates"
    2. Click on your investment account
    3. Press Ctrl+D

  • Just to be clear, custom categories are something we would love to do for 1Password in the future and we'll add your vote to have this feature.

Thanks for writing in to let us know this is important for you.
