Hi folks!

We recently became aware of an issue with applications (including 1Password) purchased from the Mac App Store reporting that they are damaged and need to be re-downloaded, and/or prompting the user for their Apple ID credentials.

The error you're seeing is related to a certificate issue affecting several App Store apps at the moment. It is not a bug with 1Password and your data is 100% safe, despite the scary messages!

The error may look like one of the boxes pictured below:

The prompt for your Apple ID may look like this:

Solutions

We've found two possible solutions to this problem:

  1. Reboot your Mac.
  2. If you are still getting errors, please try signing out of the Mac App Store (from within the App Store application's menu bar: Store > Sign Out), try launching 1Password again, and if prompted enter your Apple ID credentials.

Very early initial reports we're seeing from other developers indicate the issue may be linked to a change in the way the App Store generates receipts. Some folks have written to us asking if this is some sort of attack, and if it is a legitimate request to enter their Apple ID credentials. This is not a security issue. It is a glitch in the verification of App Store purchases because of the expiration of an Apple certificate. As more information becomes available we will update this thread.

Thanks!
