1Password no longer opens the "https://www.chase.com/amazon" website correctly

Safari indicates that the server closed the connection to the following URL:

https://www.chase.com/amazon?

Note the trailing "?".

If I manually open the website without the trailing "?", it works correctly.
If I manually add the "?", then Safari fails in the same way it does when connecting via 1Password.

The problem is: I have not added a "?" to the url.

It seems to be added by 1Password when the url is opened in Safari.

Is that possible? Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

  • Hi mdi,

I see what you are describing, I'm looking into it.

  • Hi mdi,

It turns out, this bug is fixed in the latest Safari extension (version 4.5.4). This version is not yet in the safari extension gallery. You can download and install it manually from our website:
    https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions/safari?beta=false

You will have to manually remove the existing 1Password safari extension before Safari will let you install the new one. Do this via Safari > Preferences... > Extensions

    I hope that helps.

Great. Thanks. I'll give that a try.

  • Let us know how that works out for you.

    Cheers.

    Hi chadseld & rickfillion,

Looks like it has addressed the issue.

Is there a better place to install the extension so that it's available for all users?

    Thanks!

    Hello @mdj,

I'm not sure I fully understand the question I'm afraid. The browser extension is a per user and per browser task. All three of the main browsers will update the extensions automatically, the difference with Safari is that we're waiting on Apple to authorise the newer versions of or 1Password Safari Extension in their Safari Extension Gallery. Ideally a new version would be available everywhere at the same time but because you needed the fix for this now it meant moving over to the non-curated copy of the extension. Now extensions simply don't live long enough in any of my browsers to test this but I am told that if you're now running 4.5.5 of our extension that when 4.5.6 or newer is created and released to everyone and is available in the Safari Extension Gallery that Safari will transition you over to the Safari Extension Gallery version automatically. As I say this is in theory as the 1Password Safari Extension rarely gets to live for even half a week on my Mac and even then it's usually the beta

I'm not aware of any way to use some sort of server-side push to update multiple user accounts but I do confess server administration is not a strong point of mine so maybe somebody else knows differently.

I was having the same issue with launching "https://www.chase.com/?" from 1P. It would add a trailing ?.

Just removed and installed to the newer Safari Extension 4.5.5 and it's fixed the problem. Thanks for the info!

  • Great! Glad to hear it is working.

@mdj to answer your question, for security reasons, Apple only allows Safari extensions to be installed on a per-user basis. So you will need to update it one user at a time.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
