App logins no longer working.

Options

I’ve been using 1Password for a long time to login to desktop applications and website that use Windows style popup login boxes and it’s been working great. However they have now stopped working for some reason. When I press control+\ nothing happens. Normal logins continue to work fine.

I’ve tested this out on two websites in Firefox that use the windows style login boxes and a java application installed on my computer that I use frequently. None of them work.

I’ve tried the normal. Restarted the helper, rebooted the computer but nothing has helped so far.

Any ideas?

Thanks

@reck: Since we haven't changed how 1Password handles application logins, I'm not having trouble using them myself. I wonder if it's something specific to your setup. Can you give an example URL, your Firefox version, and the exact steps you're taking so I can test this myself? Thanks in advance! :)

    Hi brenty,

Oh I'm sure it is just something with 1Password on my computer. It was working a few days and I haven't updated 1Password or Firefox, just some Windows updates.

I'm using Firefox 45.0.1 but as 1Password isn't logging into desktop apps either I don't think it's just down to the browser.

I've just discovered it doesn't work with the keepass application either. The other sites and applications are corporate systems so I can't share urls's etc. I'd expect it to work on your system though so I don't think it would help much.

The steps I follow are to open the application or website and when it asks for the credentials press control+\ so 1Password fill in the details, unfortunately now it doesn't fill in the details.

    Hi @reck,

Any chance your AV might be interfering here? What anti-malware solution are you using and has it been recently updated?

Mike we use Sophis a/v, been using it for years. Apart from the standard virus definition update there's been no major updates over the last week.

    Hi @Reck,

Hmm, I'm not seeing what else it could be. I'd suggest the following:

    1. Uninstall 1Password via Control Panel, it won't affect your 1Password data, restart the computer
    2. Download the latest version from here: http://agilebits.com/downloads and install the program
    3. Restart once more and see if fixes the issue.

    Hi Mike,

Just tried a reinstall but it’s not made any difference unfortunately. Only web logins are working currently.

Just sent email to support linking to this thread.

It's really annoying having to keep finding the credentials in 1P and using Auto-Type instead of just pressing Control+. I hope this is an easy thing to fix.

Does anyone know of any public websites that use Windows style login boxes that I could test with?

@reck: Ah, sorry for the confusion! I understand now:

Does anyone know of any public websites that use Windows style login boxes that I could test with?

There aren't any I could find, but it dawned on me that the problem is that this isn't a Firefox browser window; it's a separate window altogether!

It works in Chrome since the login dialog box is part of the browser window, but in Firefox you'll need to edit the login item and Ctrl-click the + Add button and choose the login window (called something like "Authentication Required") and save it. Otherwise 1Password is trying to fill Firefox, not this separate window. I hope this helps. Please tell me how it turns out! :)

When I originally created the login I controlled+clicked the Add URL button to turn it into an app login and it’s continued working since the day I set it up. When it stopped working a couple of days ago I did control+click again to add the dialogue window but it’s not made any difference.

The browser login has an entry called “MozillaDialogClass” and the Desktop Java application I use has an entry “http://SunAwtDialog”.

Actually I’ve just noticed something. I’m seeing two entries for each of those two example logins, one with https:// in front and one without. So the website one has an entry “http://MozillaDialgClass” and a separate entry with “MozillaDialogClass”. I’d have thought these type of app logins shouldn’t have the http bit in front is that correct?

If they are both listed does 1Password attempt to try both of them and does the order matter in this case?

OK after testing it appears the issue is the http in front of the app login url. I’ve gone through and removed the http part and it’s all working again now. Could there be some kind of bug that added this the urls? This has been working great for a long time and then they all just stopped working one day.

One question I have about this is how the url listings work? In some of my app logins I had the correctly formatted urls as well as the badly formatted one but it looks like 1Password won’t use them unless it’s the first option, is that the correct behaviour? What’s the purpose of being able to have multiple urls per login?

    Thanks

@reck: That was my thought as well. We're investigating to see if we can find the cause, but I suspect it may be impossible to ascertain. Can you tell me which other devices and OS/1Password versions you're syncing with? That may provide some insight if, for example, another platform is confusing things by adding the `http:// to a Windows-only app "URL".

Ah, if I understand your description correctly that's a setting in the app: 1Password Preferences > Logins > Enable multiple URLs. With this enabled, 1Password will offer a login for any URLs saved for an item. It is useful to have it disabled though if performance is an issue, since decrypting additional data to search beyond the first URL of every item is resource intensive.

Yep. I'm running 1Password on two PC's running Windows 10, an iPhone and an iPad. All are running the latest version.

That sounds like the right setting but i've just checked and its turned off on my computer.

What i'm talking about is using a single login to different places. For instance "amazon.co.uk" & "audible.co.uk" would use the same username and password so rather than create 2 separate logins I have one but with 2 urls for each of the sites. Does the enable URL's setting have to be turned on for this to work?

@reck: Yes, exactly. 1Password will not decrypt (and therefore ignore) all but the first URL and title without "Enable multiple URLs".

Excellent! That gives me a starting point to see if I can find a way to reproduce this on my end. Thanks for confirming this! :chuffed:

    Hi @reck,

One more thing, did you do any import/export recently with 1Password or sharing items? We had a bug in the past where if you import without the https:// part, 1Password would add http:// automatically but we haven't seen a regression of this after we fixed it.

    Mike this happened - https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/62378/1password-suddenly-switched-to-a-different-vault-that-i-didnt-expect

BTW part of that issue has come back again this morning but i'll update the previous post with details about that.

Other than the issue posted i've not done anything extra in terms of import\export or sharing. I had to restore from backup due the issue posted.
