The 1Password 3 extension does not work with current versions of 1Password for Windows.

If you encounter the following symptoms:

  • Red dot or exclamation point over the browser icon
  • "Connecting... 1... 2... 3... 4... 5..." and counting
  • Chrome disables 1Password extension and you see the message that it violates the Chrome Web Store policy:

You will need to upgrade to the latest version of 1Password extension. Chrome has started enforcing the hosted in Chrome Web Store requirement and 1Password 3 extension fails this requirement. Here what you need to do in order to upgrade:

Do not remove the extension from your browser! You'll need to export any data which was not already sync'd to the main 1Password app; this guide has step-by-step instructions:

Finally, get up to date

  1. Remove the old extension
  2. Install the 1Password 4 app
  3. Install the 1Password 4 extension
