not having luck installing 1password extension on my browser

in 1Password 4 for Windows

I am using chrome on windows 10pro. I am using the web based 1password program. I downloaded the 1password extension for chrome and it gives me an error that the 1 password helper is not working. I read that it may because I have not installed the 1password app on my computer. IF this is true, how do I install the app and associate it with my existing account. It does not seem to be allowing me to do this. when I say that I am not new to 1password it tells me I need to have some sort of vault that I don't have. when i say that i am new to 1 password it makes me sign up with a new master passwork. I am so confused. Not a tech a guy

    Thanks for taking time to contact us! We are always happy to help.

    Is it possible that you have two versions of 1Password for Windows installed at the moment, 1Password 4 and 1Password 6? If you are planning to use your 1Password account, please uninstall 1Password 4. Here is how:

    1) On the Start menu, select Settings.
    2) Select System > Apps & features.
    3) Find 1Password 4 there and then select Uninstall.

    1Password extension should connect to 1Password 6 after that. Please let me know how it goes. Thanks in advance!
