Hello
Mac System Sierra 10.12.5
1Password ver. 6.7.1 (671001)
1. Checked for updates. it says 6.8.4 is available.
2. I clicked Download Update
3. "Downloading ..."
4. "Ready to update!" I clicked "Update and Relaunch"
5. It says "Extracting Archive," Then it quickly changed to read, "downloading..."
6. Now it says, "Ready to update!"
7. I clicked Update and Relaunch.,
8. "Downloading ..."
9. it says, "Ready to update!" Cancel or Update and Relaunch buttons on the right.

I repeated above steps about a dozen times.
And 1Password still reads, "1Password ver. 6.7.1 (671001)"

I went to the Agilebits website and logged in. If there's a download
option, it's well hidden.

Okay, I give up. What must I do, to upgrade to the newest version 6.8.4,
to make the application take the upgrade?

Thank you

Downloading and installing the new version manually sounds like the right idea! Do you see a Downloads button on https://agilebits.com ?
Otherwise here's a direct link to the Downloads page: https://1password.com/downloads/

Indeed, also at the bottom of https://1password.com

It sounds like 1Password is simply damaged on your system, or something else is interfering with the update process. If you drag the app to the Trash (DO NOT use a "cleaner" app), restart your Mac, and install a fresh copy that will get you up to date. Let us know how it goes! :)
