Unable to get 1password to recognize secret key on new MAC

I have 1password on my MAC. I recently switched machines and installed it from the app store on a second MAC. I cant get it to set up properly.

  1. Getting a code from my first MAC does not help. I have no idea how to scan the thing in, and if I use get link, I get a url that starts with "onepassword" that I have no idea what to do with,.
  2. I got my secret key from my firs MAC and used it to try to log in and setup my second. It does not like the key, says that on this computer the key should start with something else.
  3. The FAQs dont help, it sends me to my account to get stuff and I cant log onto my account on the second MAC. First mac I can log on fine.

This user interface may be secure but it sure leaves a lot to be desired and is incredibly confusing. The documentation that I found does not help.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum, @schenkew! I'm sorry for the trouble. If you've got a 1Password account and you've added it to 1Password for Mac on your older Mac, you should be able to open 1Password for Mac on that (older) Mac and go to Preferences > Accounts. You'll find your account there, and you can click reveal next to your Secret Key, then copy that one over to your newer Mac. Also, be sure you're using the same URL to sign in. Individual accounts use https://my.1password.com, but a 1Password Families account or 1Password Teams account will use a subdomain chosen by you - something like https://(your-chosen-name).1password.com.

If this isn't helpful, can you describe the exact steps you're taking on your new Mac? Thanks.
