Safe to use?

Is the latest alpha build safe for general use? Would like to have some of the features...specifically Windows Hello but not if the app is highly unstable or unsafe.

Can you go back to production release after you join the beta? What happens if you take off the beta builds option? Do you stop getting new beta builds and stay on the version you are on until the production version is released?

If it is better to hold off how soon can we expect Windows Hello to be available?

Thanks....keep up the good work!

  • Hi @Cartman,

    Thanks for writing in.

We wouldn't ship any builds that's not safe to use but even if we do, we do take precautions to protect and back up your vaults first. For an example, in 1Password 7 Alpha 2, when we start supporting writing changes to your standalone vaults, we automatically back up the original copy and back it up daily for 90 days while we continue to polish the support for standalone vaults.

In addition, everything is internally tested before we release any builds to the public.

However, we can't promise it would be perfectly stable or may not crash, that's the goal of the alpha/beta testing. It would be difficult and extremely time-consuming to test 1Password on every single combination of Windows versions, drivers, machine types, etc, which is why we need the help of our community.

Yes, you can always uninstall the unstable builds and install the stable build if you want.

1Password will update you to the next stable build when it is ready and no, you would not get the next beta update since it will check for a new version on the stable update channel. That's why you may want to uninstall the unstable build and install the stable build instead.

We don't have a timeframe for 1Password 7 but we certainly hope it will be this year at the very least.
