1p7 Now uses the Secure Enclave; What was it using before?

From the release blog:

Also new in 1Password 7, we’ve taken advantage of Apple’s Secure Enclave to protect your Master Password when Touch ID is enabled. This is incredibly cool because the keys used for encryption are protected by the hardware and not accessible to other programs or the operating system.

I thought this would have been the case all along, like the iOS versions. Question is, what was it using before when TouchID was enabled?

TIA

@steven1 - Touch ID on the Mac isn't quite identical to Touch ID on iOS. Prior to 1Password 7, Touch ID was encrypting your Master Password and storing it in the System Keychain (temporarily) when you used Touch ID. You can read more about how this was done in the past and how it's done now in this forum post from Rick, the man who actually designed both approaches. Let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks @Lars . I read through Jp Goldbergs comments. Looks like it was using Cloud Keychain before and now uses similar to the one on iOS using the Secure Enclave.

@steven1 - jpgoldberg is always the man to listen to when it comes to the intricacies of encryption mechanics. Glad we were able to help. :)
