I want to make you aware of that CMD + \ is not available on all keyboard layouts. In Scandinavia we don't have backslash under delete, but on numer 7 with a SHIFT + OPT modifier. A 3-button modifier with CMD is not allowed (SHIFT + OPT + CMD + 7), and looking in the 1Password settings you can see that it's actually not mapped to 7 i, but to *-button. Your docs falsely assumes that everybody has a english keyboard layout. This creates a lot of frustration until you find that it's NOT backslash you should use on the keyboard.

@antonmise: Indeed, there are many European keyboard layouts that pose a similar challenge, and unfortunately there just isn't a one-size-fits-all solution for a keyboard shortcut that will be available to everyone around the world. So we've made it so that you can customize it in 1Password Preferences > General. That way you can set it to something that is not only more convenient, but others can as a matter of preference too. Cheers! :)
