Password generator & outlook

I am experiencing difficulty getting outlook (for Mac 2016) to accept and store a new gmail password that is generated by the 1 Password generator. The new gmail password works everywhere else including GMail app on iPhone, Google Chrome, and even mail app on iPhone. Because I must have outlook working is there anything short of creating a new and less secure password that I can do to make this work?

    @Needlejockey: I'm not sure this is something that really involves 1Password X. It sounds like maybe Outlook 2016 simply doesn't support Google's latest authentication. Do you maybe need to create an app specific password for it? There's a section specifically about Outlook:
