Changing field type loses in-progress edit

Bug-Annoyance/Feature Request:
I'm filling in a new label field (e.g. 978-555-1212) than move to the field type to change it from the default Text to Phone. Upon changing the field type, my in-progress edit is cleared (NOT saved) and I have to re-enter it. This seems to be a problem only if you move from a new field entry to the field type. I.e. If I move from the label field to the label name (or any other point on the screen OTHER than the field type), the label field entry is automatically saved and not cleared. I believe this is a bug (artifact) of only moving from the label field edit to the field type.

I'd prefer that you change the behavior so an in-progress field entry is not cleared unless the new field type disallows the field entry.
