Recover / Change master password?

I've been using 1password for several years on my iPad and always log in with the Touch ID. I recently purchased a MacBook and a subscription to 1password so I could sync them across devices.
The version on my laptop wants the master password to set up the sync, but I don't have it anymore since I just use TouchID to get into the app on my iPad. When I click the 'change password' in the account settings of my iPad, it asks for the master password confirmation but the Touch ID doesn't function in that space.
I have the secret key for the subscription, but not the master password (other than the fingerprint). I also tried to follow the instructions in the account settings of the iPad to use the QR code to sync up the laptop, but the 'set up other devices' box is greyed out (along with the 'change master password' box).
Is there a way to solve this problem?
The laptop is using 1password 6; OS is High Sierra 10.13.5. The iPad is an iPad Pro, iOS11.4
Thank you very much for your response.

I don't have it [master password] anymore since I just use TouchID to get into the app on my iPad.

Not remembering your master password because you always use Touch ID is really dangerous, as you have discovered. Your iPad will require your master password whenever your iPad restarts. This will include OS updates, which you will eventually need. This is mainly for other users who may read this. Always, always, always retain that master password, no matter what. You will eventually be required to use it, such as when you want to install on a new device. Or when your master password is required after a system restart.

The bad news is that no one besides you has your master password, unless you gave it to someone else. As part of the security, AgileBits does not have access to it, and they cannot restore access to your data without it. Unless you can remember it, you are going to have to start over from scratch and reconstruct your data in a new vault.

This web page has suggestions for things to try to help you remember:

Sorry, didn't mean to lecture. I know it has to be frustrating.

    Hi, @john_williams.

I'm sorry you forgot your Master Password. From your description, it sounds like the best way forward is to create a new account and copy your information over. Since you can still access your data on your iPad using Touch ID, you can move it all over to your new account pretty easily.

    1. Sign up for a new account: https://1password.com/sign-up/ (you'll need to use a different email address)
    2. Add it to 1Password on your iPad: https://support.1password.com/add-account/?ios
    3. Move all of your items over to the new account: https://support.1password.com/move-share-items/?ios#to-move-items-in-the-apps
    4. Delete the old account. When you're ready to do this, please email me at support+forum@agilebits.com and include a link to this thread.
    5. If you want, you can change your email address on the new account to the same one you used for your old account once the old account is deleted.

Let me know if you have any trouble along the way, otherwise when you get to step 4. :)
