If you use the Mac App Store for the update, the store tells you that 1Password must be exited before it can apply the update. The store tries to quit 1Password but it cannot. You must first log into 1Password and then use mini to quit 1password completely. Only then can the App store actually download and installed the latest version. :-(

Extension Version: 7.4.1
OS Version: OSX 10.13.5
Sync Type: 1Password.com

    We're aware of the difficulty. Development is looking into the issue and will hopefully have a resolution in place soon.
