Dropbox security question

Dropbox offers possibility to 1Password to only have access to 1Password's files. Yet you require that Dropbox give you access to all my other unrelated files. I'm uncomfortable with anyone but myself having access to these unrelated files. Why is this necessary? Can it be avoided? I sync using a Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

1Password Version: 6.8.8
Extension Version: 4.7.2
OS Version: OS X.13.5
Sync Type: Dropbox
Referrer: forum-search:dropbox api permission

  • Hi @gjs ,

This is a legacy issue more than anything else. When Dropbox was new, there wasn't a way to restrict access on an app-by-app basis. And as such, there are many customers with their 1Password sync files in locations other than apps/1Password/. So, it's basically necessary to have full access for that reason or else it would break sync. That's not to say we can't look at doing something about it in the future. We can certainly do that. But for today, the reason is to support everyone with existing sync setups.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
