Standalone license for multiple computers

Hi,

I am using 1password 4 on multiple machines and would like to switch over to version 7 on all machines. Do I need a standalone license for every machine? If yes, are there any discounts when purchasing several licenses?

    @tpassword: Each 1Password app is licensed per individual, so a single license for 1Password for Windows version 7, for example, would entitle you to use that on all of your PCs. You'd only need additional licenses for yourself if you want to use 1Password for Mac, 1Password for Android, etc. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

  • Perfect. Thank you.

    You're very welcome. We're here if you need anything else. :chuffed:

  • If I can reopen this? I need to use 1Password on both Mac and Windows. One individual. Does that mean two licenses?

    Hi, @Davert. If you need to use the licensed versions instead of a 1Password membership, then yes, that will require two licenses.

    On the other hand, you can sign up for a 1Password membership for $3/month and that will cover the 1Password apps on all of your devices: https://1password.com/sign-up/

  • I was afraid of that. Thanks.

    @Davert,

    Membership really is going to be able to offer the better value here. :)

  • Depends on how often you release new versions, and how compatible 7 is with upcoming OS versions, really... I don’t like subscription models in general so I’m glad you are keeping the regular licenses.

    Fair enough, though I'd argue price alone isn't the only factor to be considered when determining value. There is a fair bit that comes with membership that doesn't with a license. :) A few things are mentioned here:

    What are the benefits of a 1Password membership?

    Ben

  • Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I'm finding the pricing discussions to be a little hard to follow.

    I'm not interested in a membership at this time, but I would like to upgrade from 1Password for Windows, version 4.6, to version 6. This would be both to get any new features and also support a good product.

    In addition to using version 4.6 on my Windows laptop, I use version 7.1 on my iPhone. The two products sync (and quite nicely).

    So here is my question. If I purchase a standalone license for Windows, version 7, will my existing iPhone app no longer sync with my laptop product?

    @Funglin,

    Sync will stop when you upgrade (because of the migration to OPVault from Agile Keychain) but you’ll be able to re-establish it. I’m not sure how that relates to pricing, though... was there a pricing question I missed?

    Please let me know.

  • Thanks Ben. I wasn't very clear myself. My question is whether I would have to pay for a separate iOS license.

    Nope. :) 1Password for iOS is a free download, with an in-app purchase for Pro features. If you already have the Pro features, or don’t want them, there is no additional purchase required there.

    I hope that helps!

  • Hi. After receiving a new laptop a couple of weeks ago and migrating all my apps and data it, I upgraded my copy of 1Password from v6.x to 7, and I purchased a stand-alone license at that time. I forgot I had covered my wife's license previously with a family license. Do you currently offer a stand-alone family license, or do I just need to purchase the family subscription-based membership? And can I apply any of the $49.99 I spent on the stand-alone license toward a family license? Thank you for your help.

    @RicB,

    We do not sell family standalone licenses but our sales team can definitely look into this situation for you and see how we can best help you move forward. Could you please send the details to [email protected]? When you email in you'll get an automated reply back from BitBot with a support ID. Please post that ID here.

    @RicB - thanks. I see my colleague Corey has been helping you there; let's keep the conversation going via email so it's private instead of here in this public forum. Thanks! :)

  • Thanks much!

    Welcome. :)

  • I have 1Password V4.6.2.626 running on Windows 10 (1803) and synchronising to iPhone and iPad using Dropbox. I purchased a standalone license for my Windows version back in 2015. Every time I click Check for Update, it says I am running on the latest version yet I see talk everywhere about 1Password Version 7. What is needed for me to upgrade my Windows Version?

  • brentybrenty

    @Bunks: It's not required, but it's recommended. The old version of 1Password is not longer being developed, so any improvements will be in the current version. It's not being offered to you as an update to what you're running because it is not a free update, but rather a paid upgrade. You can find more information in the announcement detailing what's new:

    1Password 7 for Windows: The Best Ever

    And be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

  • Thanks Brenty. Next question... My wife and I share the same database to hold all our personal passwords, passports, drivers licenses, home security system PINs etc etc. I manage the database on Windows and we both access it on our iPhones and iPads. We use Dropbox for synchronisation which works brilliantly. Question: If I upgrade to 1Passport V7 which I believe involves a database upgrade (regardless of the license option I choose), will my wife still be able to see our data from her existing Standalone Licenses on her iPhone and iPad?

    @Bunks: All devices just need to be setup to sync with the same vault. If you're not already using OPVault, you'll need to setup everything to use the new vault after upgrading.

  • Hi, I have a question about multiple computers on 1 license. I have all Macs - 1 for work and 2 at home - can I use 1 standalone license for all three computers?

    Hi @emmawallace!

    Yes, a standalone license allows you to use 1Password on all of your Macs :)

  • Hi,
    Since a few days I'm using the standalone license on my private Mac.
    In addition, I use the 1password extension in my Chrome web browser.
    At work I have a windows 10 laptop where I also use the Chrome web browser.
    Chrome is linked to my google account, so all my extensions are automatically synchronized between Mac and PC.
    However, I cannot use the extension on my work PC. What is possible to make this work? My employer does not allow me to install software on my work PC.

    Welcome to the forum, @Bennyd! If you have a standalone license, that's for the native application of 1Password for Mac or 1Password for Windows. You will need to install the native application in order for its companion extension to function. If your employer doesn't allow you to install software on the Windows PC you use for work, then you won't be able to use 1Password in standalone mode there.

    One potential solution would be to switch to a 1password.com membership/account, which would allow you to install 1Password X into your browser on your PC at work, and use either that or the native 1Password for Mac application with the companion extension on your home Mac.

  • Thanks for the fast reply!

    Hmm, so actually there is a solution but it is not allowed in standalone mode.
    Is there a possibility to cancel my purchase or, in the worst case, to switch to a subscription model?

    @Bennyd

    I'd encourage you to reach out to our folks at [email protected] to discuss your individual circumstances and what may be possible based on them. As this is a public forum we can really only speak in generalities with regard to that sort of stuff. We'd be happy to get more in-depth via email though.

    Thanks!

    Ben
