Different sorting order for tags in sidebar
I'd like to be able to sort tags by, say, the number of items they're applied to or the frequency with which they're selected. Even the creation date would be an improvement over alphabetic ordering. The latter only helps with actually locating the tag on the screen, which (if this feature were to be implemented) would be unnecessary 80% of the time, since the 20% of tags that I do use frequently would be near the top of the list.
I looked for this request in the forum, but after three or four searches and eight or so pages of results, I gave up. Apologies if it's a duplicate.

@cboettcher - it's not a duplicate, and even if it were, that's OK. We're here to help. Unfortunately, in this case, I don't have a ready-made solution or even workaround for you. Currently, the only order for tags is alphabetical. We're considering potential different approaches as something for the future, but I have nothing to announce on that score right now. Sorry to disappoint.
