How do I apply an old 1Password license from 2013-2014 to 1Password 7?

I purchased an old license from the 1Password 3 days, and I've been able to apply the license to newer versions of 1Password with no confusion or complication until now. I just got a new work laptop and am trying to set up 1Password 7, and I can't figure out how to apply the license anymore. I tried two routes after clicking on the "View complete installation steps" link in the receipt + license information email and letting the license file download

1. Clicking "Open 1Password 7" when prompted (nothing happened)

2.Going to the menu > License > click open (the license file is not an acceptable file)

1Password 7 requires either a 1Password membership or a 1Password 7 license (separate from any previous purchases). You can read more about this here:
