Open 1Password app on Mac
1. Create a new Login
2. Enter name
3. Change vault from default (Personal) to another vault (Work)
4. Add username, password, and website
5. click Save

Expected
New login record shows my login information and saves it to my Work vault

Actual
New login record shows login in information and saves it to my Personal vault.

Welcome to the forum, @jnunemacher! I'm sorry for the trouble. How do you store/sync your data? Are all your vaults standalone, or are they all part of your 1password.com account? Or a mixture of both? Do you belong to more than one 1Password account?

I have a family account, but only one account. I'm not sure what you mean about a vault being "standalone". The vaults are available on all my devices, and they do sync real time.

@jnunemacher - standalone refers to the way you use 1Password and where you data is located. If you have a 1password.com account, your data is not standalone.

Can you tell me how you created this Login item? The recommended way to do so is by opening the site's Login page in your browser, manually typing your credentials into the page, and then clicking the "Submit" or "Login" button, and allowing the 1Password extension to save the data for you. When done this way, you'll get a pop-up that allows you to choose which vault you'd like to save the item into, which works correctly.

Nevertheless, I've confirmed the behavior you're seeing, and it shouldn't be happening. I've filed an issue for it, so thanks for reporting it. You're welcome to use 1Password however you wish, but I'd caution against creating Login items manually because when you do that, you're probably entering only the title of the item, a URL and your username/password. That seems like it would do it, but in fact it often does not capture the entire set of fields on the page, many of which can be invisible to the user. When you use the method I described above, 1Password will capture ALL of it for you, and correctly. But when people enter their own data manually, what can happen is that someone will, for example, type www.amazon.com in the "website" field for an Amazon login. But Amazon's login page isn't www.amazon.com, it's https://www.amazon.com/ap/signin?_encoding=UTF8&ignoreAuthState=1&openid.assoc_handle=usflex&openid.claimed_id=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0%2Fidentifier_select&openid.identity=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0%2Fidentifier_select&openid.mode=checkid_setup&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0&openid.ns.pape=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fextensions%2Fpape%2F1.0&openid.pape.max_auth_age=0&openid.return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2F%3Fref_%3Dnav_signin&switch_account= -- which most people aren't likely to be typing out and may forget to copy/paste from their browser's URL bar. It's just much more likely to get correct results when allowing 1Password to do the work of saving the data for you, rather than creating it manually. Hope that's helpful!

Sometimes new logins are not picked up and saved by 1Password when I create an account, so I go into the app and add a login directly, manually filling the fields as I described in the initial post above. So it seems like there are issues with capturing logins all the time.

@jnunemacher - there will always be a small percentage of sites that 1Password does not handle well. If you run across one of these, let us know, and we'll do what we can to fix it. Usually, we'll be able to, but there will always be a small number of sites that just don't work with 1Password, most often because the owners of those sites explicitly do not want people using password managers, and they take measures to prevent it. But the vast majority of the time, saving in the recommended manner does indeed work, and if you're using 1Password's Password Generator, there will always be a Password item saved for the site, even if saving it as a Login fails initially. You may also want to try saving the login manually if auto-save gives you trouble. Thanks again for letting us know about the saved vault issue, and have a great rest of your week.
