I installed 1Password 7 (downloaded from your website not Appstore Nov 21), I like the new format - but it crashes a lot - I've sent the crashlogs when the crash interface opened (not doing that every time).
Strangely it also flickers sometimes.
I'm worried there's a lot of dat in there!
Mac Mini i7, OSX 10.12.6

1Password Version: 7.2.2
Extension Version: 4.7.3.90
OS Version: OSX 10.12.6
Sync Type: dropbox

@neilB - I'm sorry for the trouble! Can I ask you: what browser(s) are you using (and what version)? macOS 10.12 (“Sierra”) is the oldest supported version of macOS for 1Password 7 for Mac, and if you're using Safari 12, it won't work at all with 4.7.3.90 extension (which you said you're using).

    Hi Lars
It’s the main 1Password application that’s flickering and crashing often, not the "mini" - I have OSX 10.12x and Safari 12.0.1.
The app store isn't showing any Safari past 12.0.1?
    Is 12.0.1 OK?

    thanks

    Oops,
actually Safari extensions gallery shows 1Password extension 7.2.2. I do have auto update extensions ON

    Chrome shows 1Password extension 4.7.3.90
Google Chrome is up to date Version 70.0.3538.110 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I see in the help that "Chrome will automatically update the extension to the latest version"
maybe it isn't unless 4.7.3.90 is right for Chrome?

    does that make any sense?
and is it likely that this might be the cause of the main app crashing (which it never did in version 6x).

    thanks

    With my regards, Neil Barstow

  • Hi neilB,

Is there a certain part of the interface that flickers? I've seen flicker in the animated logo when running under VMWare on a 10.14 computer, so there are some video acceleration issues with the latest version of VMWare. But I've not heard of flicker on an actual Mac, especially one running 10.12.

When 1Password flickers, it’s the right column in the main app window, one of my saved entires
I've tried to video it but when I tried 1password quit

Do you have any comments about the spontaneous quits since v 7 update please?
By the way I noticed in Firefox (63.0.3 (64-bit)) that the extension is "iPassword beta" can I update that?

@neilB - iPassword is not a product made by us. If you have such a thing installed, it's probably best to remove it.

@neilB - the flickering can be a function of Markdown rendering in a note, it shouldn't persist for more than a second or two. If you've got the beta version of 1Password extension, that means you downloaded the beta version at some point, which is different from the stable channel release(s). You can delete the extension and re-download the stable channel extension if you like, from our downloads page.

Can you give us a bit more data regarding crashing? It's not a common issue, which makes me think something's up with your specific setup. Do you notice any pattern under which such crashing occurs? Is it random, right after you unlock, when you try to fill something? Save something? Under other circumstances?

    Hi Lars,

Thanks for the tips on downloading the 1P extension, I have done that in Firefox the others are up to date I think.
    Safari shows 1Password extension 7.2.2.
    Chrome shows 1Password extension 4.7.3.90

    :CRASHES:
Most of the crashes have occurred whilst the application is open but not in use, its not being used, yes it has happened during 1Password startup.
One time it was flickering and I thought to video that phenomenon, but it crashed when I clicked to set the first corner of the recording frame.

Its not crashed for a few days
Should I send the support data next time? Using the 1PasswordTroubleshooting app?

    thanks

@neilB - if you're getting regular crashes when you're not even using 1Password, then the first thing I'd do is Quit 1Password 7 Completely by typing ^⌥⌘Q (or just holding down the Control and Option keys as you choose Quit from the 1Password menu) and delete 1Password 7 for Mac. Don't use any app cleaners or uninstallers to do this, as these programs can remove more data than we want them to. Just drag the 1Password app to the Trash. Restart your Mac and visit our downloads page to download a new copy and run the installer. Your data will appear just as you left it. Run it for a while, and see if that makes any difference. If it doesn't appear to help, then yes, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

    With your email please include:

    • A link to this thread: https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/98755/1password-7-is-crashing-often-occasionally-the-appearance-strange-flickering
    • Your forum username: @neilB

That way I can "connect the dots" when I see your diagnostics in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here so I can track down the diagnostics and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)

Once I see the diagnostics I'll be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

    Hi Lars

    thanks
I have reinstalled 1P and will let you have a report if this continues.

BTW, you wrote: "then the first thing I'd do is Quit 1Password 7 Completely by typing ^⌥⌘Q"
So, first thing I did was to hold down shift / alt / cmd / Q
blast - it shut down every running app and then logged me out on the mac.
when I logged back in all the apps including 1password reopened. hmm.
did you really mean "shift/alt/cmd/Q"? It didn't do what you expected.

Anway, once I'd recovered from that, I tried "just holding down the Control and Option keys as you choose Quit from the 1Password menu" and that was OK

    have a good week/end

@neilB - not shift, that caret (^) is the control key -- so: "ctrl + cmd + option (alt) + Q" (the three keys immediately to the left of your space bar, on a normal Mac keyboard.

    ah,
    thanks
that's not something I ever came across in over 20 years on mac right back to OS7,
    not many others know that meaning either, I imagine ;-}
Just in case it helps someone else, then, I'd suggest writing "ctrl / alt / cmd / Q"
nothing like a bit of simplicity.
