When Internet not available, 1P Win hangs at startup for ~20 seconds checking for new version

When starting 1Password for Windows with Internet disabled, it hangs for about 22 secs looking for updates, and the Cancel button doesn't work!

It should either:

1) Do a quick check for connectivity and skip the check if it can't reach your server (preferred),
or
2) Enable the Cancel button during the check.

Relevant details: I sometimes disable the Internet on my Win7 machine (to prevent distractions!) I don't know exactly how it works (I purposely haven't looked -- I'm a SW engineer so it would be too easy for me to be tempted...) but the script does something like trashing the local DNS. I have to reboot to enable the connection, or it resets itself after several hours.

1Password Windows 1.0.9.340
Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1

Thanks!
