Custom fields for Identities [Not available for Identities yet but is for other categories]

I've added some custom fields to my some of my entries using the IOS app (with Pro features). When I click on them in the Windows app, I see them but I'm unable to edit them... they don't show up in the edit fields. Is it possible to edit/create custom fields in the Windows app?

As an example, I'm created an 'identities' entry for my son and added a custom 'password' field called SSN. I can see & edit it on my iPhone. When I click on the entry in the Windows app I can see the entry. When I try to edit it on Windows, it's nowhere to be seen.

Is this normal?

Yes. Simply click on the Pencil button.

I'm afraid Identities are the exception to the rule. You cannot edit Identity custom fields on Windows yet. Sorry.

    Thanks for the info.

Any idea when identities will be fixed in the Windows version? At the very least one of the default entries for an identity should be SSN, I think. I sometimes have to know my kid's (and wife's) SSN for insurance purposes and there's no way I can remember them. I can barely remember my own...

@rcaslis‌ Have you considered the SSN item?

I have, but I want to combine all the info for a given person into one entry.

Otherwise I'm looking up a birthdate in one entry, a SSN in another entry, a driver's license in a different entry... fairly inefficient when I need all that info at one time.

Good point, @rcaslis‌. I often wish Credit Card items included fields for billing and shipping addresses, for much the same reason.

Thanks for letting us know this would be useful to you!

So more than 6 months later and this is not fixed yet? I am using thge latest 1Password for Windows Beta and still cant edit custom fields in Identity!? Is it really that difficult? It works for other items, so whats so special about Identities that it doesnt work?

Luckily I dont have to use Windows so much at work, but there are still cases where I do.

1Password for Mac is such a joy - 1Password for Windows is just so frustrating in comparison. Please give us a good reason why this is so hard to fix!

The answer is as simple as potentially unsatisfying:
We have had limited time, limited resources, other priorities, and fixing this is not as trivial as it may seem.

The fact is that the identity item is higly specialised already and equipped with all fields a regular user might need. There have been no requests that we know of since rcaslis wrote in.

I've added your vote to our issue tracker and informed our developers about this.

Alright, no that is kind of understandable. What I feel though is a lack of planning on the part of the Windows App. Something that is clearly possible in the Mac App, although I understand, that that also might be due to a lack of resources for the Windows App. The thing is though, that you sell both for identical prices. So we can expect identical resources, planning and priorities. Otherwise the pricing has to reflect that.

We use the identity items in our company to keep a record of the people in our company. There are many items that make sense to keep in the identity item (like say, the password for their email account, which is not a login) and many others.

As soon as you put on the road map to have editable and custom fields you should have factored in that also Identity items need to have them on the Windows App - you obviously thought it was a good idea to have them otherwise they wouldn't be in the Mac App. I as a programmer understand that maybe its not as easy as it might seem, but as a consumer who paid as much as for the Mac App, can at least expect that a) the Mac and Win App are working together, which they don't right now and that b) both follow the same roadmap and will gain similar features. Nowhere on your website do I see a comparison chart with features that are in the Mac but not in the Windows app. They are marketed as being identical on the home page.

The fact that nobody else requested it doesn't make it less of a bug and a lack of functionality that renders 1Password for Windows unusable for us.

@seltzdesign How and where are they not working together? Unfortunately you cannot add custom fields to your Identities on Windows (yet), but if you add custom fields to your Identity on Mac, then those custom fields should turn up in the details section of the Windows version.

both follow the same roadmap and will gain similar features

@seltzdesign Minor differences aside, I believe they are very identical. That being said, cross-platform consistency is very important and we must improve on this wherever we can. Thanks!
