Hi,

I changed my master password which 1Password 6 took no notice of. I signed out, and then added the account again using the new password but now when unlocking the vault it still wants the old password.

    Hi @brandscill,

Thanks for writing in about these issues.

At the moment, 1Password 6 Beta uses its own local master password, it does not link against your 1Password account or any local vault files. This means changing the password elsewhere does not update the password for the app.

To change the app's master password, you have to change it manually in Settings > Options > Security.

We are working on an update to present errors to users when something has changed remotely and/or if you need to update your password without having to sign out first.

This doesn't seem very secure. Surely the point of having a Personal 1Password account is so that the password is set there and not locally? iOS and OSX app both demanded the new password, not a local one.

    Hi @brandscill,

Just to be clear, the actual password is not stored anywhere. What's stored is the encrypted key, the only way 1Password can unlock that key is if you give it the password that unlocks the key. All of your 1Password apps have a local encryption key that is protected by your master password (and account key with 1Password.com).

1Password 6 Beta has its own encryption key that is generated locally (strongest possible) and then protected by a password that's based on the first password you've entered into the app, in this case, the password you've used for your 1Password account. This is true for all 1Password apps, they all have their own local keys protected by the first password accepted.

The main difference right now is 1Password on other platforms will sync to see if there's a newer encrypted key that has been updated, it will then download that key, see if it can unlock it with the same password and if not, it will ask you to enter the new password. Once it does work, it'll replace the local encrypted key with the new key. 1Password 6 Beta doesn't do this yet.

Also, all decryption is done locally, your data is never decrypted on our servers.

Okay so how can I change the local key as its getting confusing? When will it do this?

    Hi @brandscill,

Open the 1Password 6 Beta app, unlock and click on Settings on top right to select Options. In Options, click on Security on the left sidebar and then click on Change Password.

Okay, and when will the app work like the rest?

    Hi @brandscill,

If you are referring to the remote master password update, we don't have a timeframe on that. We're working on extensions right now as that what everyone wants us to do first, as soon as 1Password mini and extensions are done, we'll tackle the rest.

Okay. At the moment 1Password 6 feels really out of whack with how everything else works which adds a lot of confusion.

What extensions are you working on?

    Hi @brandscill,

We agree and we're working as fast as we can to get it more consistent with other 1Password apps. Right now, 1Password 6 Beta is a beta build of a brand new program, it's not a typical beta build of a mature app like the other betas we have.

We're working on the 1Password mini integration with our Chrome and Firefox extensions.

Will the trial be extended if feature parity isn't met when it ends? Primary device is Windows and iOS so it's important it works well to use it as my full time password manager.

    Thanks

    Hi @brandscill,

If the apps doesn't meet your needs right now, we recommend using the local standalone versions instead. 1Password.com is not ready for primarily Windows users.

Don't want to use Dropbox for syncing of pay for an app when the subscription model exists.

    We'll see how it goes!

    Hi @brandscill,

I understand and we do apologize that we don't have a full app ready on Windows. We're doing everything we can to get it done as fast as we can.
