App-Specific Passwords for iCloud Access from June 15

Apple has announced Third-Party Apps Will Need App-Specific Passwords for iCloud Access From June 15.

I have been unable to determine from the media announcements (for example: https://macrumors.com/2017/05/16/third-party-apps-passwords-icloud-access/ if this impacts all apps accessing iCloud (and hence 1Password) or just those that replicate other apple services "such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or other mail, contacts and calendar services not provided by Apple"

Will an App specific password be required to allow 1Password to access iCloud from June 15?
If yes, will Agilebits 1Password app support this requirement?

1Password Version: 6.7
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: 10.12.4
Sync Type: iCloud

  • Hi @toasted,

It does not appear this change affects apps that sync using CloudKit, which is what 1Password does. The possible exception may be the way 1Password for Mac downloaded from our website accesses iCloud.

Hopefully we'll be able to share a more definitive answer as this comes closer, but at first glance I don't think there will be any impact to the majority of 1Password customers.
