Usage of private vault within an team after deletion?

Hey guys,

we recently switched our company to 1password team and asked ourselves what happens if we remove an user from our team.
Especially after a employee got fired we want to make sure, that (s)he has no further access to our vaults.
Is the access restricted immediately after removing the user from the team?

Also what happens to the "private vault" of the employee?
If the private vault cant be disabled (already found that topic), our employees might store some private data in that vaults.
We do have an legal problem if we delete those passwords and take our employee the access to some private services (e.g. facebook), so the user needs to keep access to this vault only.
We also have an legal problem, if the data of the private vault will somehow be visible to us, even after deletion.

So long story short: What happens to the vaults if a user is removed from our team?

  • Hi @dCoderMG - Thank you for reaching out to us. Congrats on the new 1Password Teams account  So let's dive right in -

Is the access restricted immediately after removing the user from the team?

Yes, access to the Teams vaults and data is completed revoked via the web app and via the apps. You can read a little more here if you're interested.

Also what happens to the "private vault" of the employee?

Anything saved within the Private vault is also deleted when the team member is removed from the account. We recommend only keeping company related items in this vault such as email login details. Only the specific user has access to their Private vault, nobody else on the team can view the data in this vault even after they have been removed. The Private vault is permanently deleted once they are deleted from the account. If a team member is interested in saving personal items after using 1Password Teams, we recommend signing up for an Individual account. They can add both accounts to the same app which gives everyone the ability to access both accounts from the same location.

I hope this helped a bit. Let us know if you have any additional questions. We're happy to help out. :+1:
