Can't sign into NY Times account from article with 1Password X

The NY Times login screen is a JavaScript popup that appears when you click the "Log in" button in the upper-right corner of nytimes.com when reading an article. Autofilling with 1Password X does not work at all here. I can click the 1Password icon that appears in the text fields, but as soon as I select my login, the entire popup disappears and I'm returned to the article and not logged in. I have to manually copy-paste details to actually log in. It also does not work if I select the login by clicking the 1Password icon in the toolbar.

Logging in with the regular app-based 1Password extension works.

Note: The javascript-based popup doesn't seem to be used on every article, for some weird reason. Some of them redirect to a login page. Most of them use JavaScript, however. Here is an example: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/14/us/politics/trump-syria-policy.html

This does not work with the Firefox or the Chrome extensions.

1Password Version: 1Password 7 Beta 8
Extension Version: 1Password X 1.6.6, 1.6.0
OS Version: macOS 10.13.4
Sync Type: AgileBits

@gordon3834: Thanks for the example. I'm not even able to test it properly because the login form popup/overlay/whatever dismisses itself if I try to interact with the password field in any way. I suspect that's why 1Password X is also having trouble there. I'll bring this up with the team and we'll see if there's something we can do to work around it. It sounds like logging in first using this page might help in the mean time though:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! :)
