Hi there, I use 1Password on my Windows10 desktop but I also want to have an app on my Iphone.

I have downloaded the app but it asked for a login and for a login I need a secret key. When you look up what the app means by this is says that you have a secret key if you have a 1password membership. But if you purchased 1 Password as a standalone app without a membership they you don't need one to sign in. It's not clear to me what kind of membership I have and what the differences are. I do know I purchased something back then. And it is also not possible to use the mobile app without signing in. A bit more information and guidance would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Ps: by the way, I could only select '1Password 6 Beta' under 'Category' above this email. The other options didn't work.

@MarliesK: This is not email, but a support forum website. If you go to any category and click "New Discussion" at the top, that will allow you to post there:

You will only have an account/membership if you've signed up for a 1Password.com subscription. That’s the only way you’ll have a Secret Key or Sign In URL, or be able to access your data through 1Password.com. Instead, you can use 1Password without an account. A license for the standalone 1Password app is a separate purchase for each platform.

However, you may want to consider a 1Password.com membership, since it gives you access to all of the apps, the web interface, and does away with license management and sync configuration altogether — you simply login to your account to authorize a device and access your data. You can try it for free for 30 days to take advantage of all of its benefits.

Otherwise you can continue using the version you paid for. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I also thank you for the clarification. Just to followup up: I currently do not have a 1P subscription but have the standalone app on multiple devices (I'm a long time user). If I am traveling, e.g,, and, let's say I lose my iPhone containing the standalone app, then I would have no way to access my 1P data - correct?

@howard687: If you didn't have your data anywhere else, then yes, you'd be out of luck. Definitely backup your data if you're not using a 1Password.com account (which includes automatic offsite backup). Better safe than sorry!
