If a Team member leaves the org, can they maintain their own Private vault?

Hi all,

My employer is considering moving to 1P Teams. One question I've been asked is "if a staff starts using 1P for personal data, then leaves the employer, how can we let them continue with their 1P data store, separate from us?"

    @swy: Thanks for reaching out! That's a great question! To be perfectly clear, if they leave and you (understandably) remove them from the company's 1Password Business account, anything they have stored in that account will be inaccessible to them. So it's recommended that they only store work-related information there.

    But of course that begs an equally important question: How can they continue to use 1Password in that case? With 1Password Business, each person you invite gets not only an account there, but also a code to redeem for a 1Password Families account. That way they can use that for personal stuff and not have to worry about what happens to it if they ever leave the company; if and when they do, their family account will be removed from the business billing, but it will still be theirs and they can setup billing for it on their own. You can find more details here:

    Link a family account to your business account

    And if you have any questions about this or anything else while you're evaluating 1Password Business, be sure to reach out via email at business@1password.com so we can help you find the best fit for your company. :)

    Hi @brenty,

    I note you referenced that a workplace invitation to 1P Business brings a 1P Family account with it. Is this a Business specific feature, or does it come with Teams also?

    If not, is there a route to accomplish the same for Teams customers?

  • @swy,

    It is limited to 1Password Business memberships. Please reach out to our business team at business@1password.com for more info. :)

    So does that imply that if we rolled out 1P Teams, there's no route for folks to have a data store of "their stuff" that's separate from "employer and client stuff" which can go their separate days when they're no longer our employee?

    @swy,

    1Password Teams can be upgraded to 1Password Business (so the cost is essentially covered by the business), or employees can pay for their own separate 1Password memberships. It essentially works the same either way, it is just a matter of who is paying for it while they’re employed.
