Question regarding URL matching

Options

Hello everybody,

I have a question regarding domain matching.

Preliminary remarks

  • I save my entries manually and do not use the extension to save them because I like to have full control over my entries and often add a lot of information to them.
  • In the field website I always enter the URL in the form https://www.example.com/ because I do not use the function "open and fill" and like my entries consistently. The subdomain www is used, because I generally prefer the use compared to the version without www (matter of taste).
  • The Allow filling on pages that closely match saved websites option is not enabled.

Normal behavior

When I visit for example the URL https://login.example.com/, 1Password fills in the login data correctly, even though I've entered https://www.example.com/ in the website field in the database. This is in my understanding the expected behavior. Source: https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/360862/#Comment_360862

Special case 1Password

When I visit the URL https://my.1password.com/ or https://myteamname.1password.com/, 1Password does not fill in the login data, even though I have an entry in the database for both my 1Password Individual account and my 1Password Teams Account. The two entries have each entered https://www.1password.com/ in the website field. When I change the URL in 1Password to https://my.1password.com/ or https://myteamname.1password.com/, autofill works.

Guess and question

I found the following comment during my research: https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/352206/#Comment_352206
Can it be that behavior has changed since then and 1Password URLs now behave like Heroku URLs? Is the special case 1Password by design or is it a bug? Or do I understand something wrong?

Many thanks for your help. :)

With kind regards,
anonymous20283u90234

@anonymous20283u90234: Thanks for getting in touch! :)

I save my entries manually and do not use the extension to save them because I like to have full control over my entries and often add a lot of information to them.

I think it's worth pointing out that using the extension removes a lot of friction and is really convenient for saving, and, ultimately, for filling, since that can allow 1Password to take you right where you need to go and log you in...but if you never use Open and Fill, I guess that won't matter to you. I just can't even calculate how much time I've saved by taking advantage of that. :)

The Allow filling on pages that closely match saved websites option is not enabled.

    Yep! That's the default. :)

    Correct.

    Special case 1Password
When I visit the URL https://my.1password.com/ or https://myteamname.1password.com/, 1Password does not fill in the login data, even though I have an entry in the database for both my 1Password Individual account and my 1Password Teams Account. Bingo! This is very much by design. This is important because each subdomain will be for a different 1Password.com account. So I wouldn't want 1Password bugging me with a list of my individual, family, and work accounts when I'm at my family sign in page (even though they're all at the same domain) since only the second will actually work there. Like Open and Fill, autosubmit, and other 1Password features, this reduces friction and, in aggregate, saves 1Password users untold amounts of time. So 1Password not only uses the public suffix list, but we've had 1password.com added to that expressly for this purpose. I hope this helps (though you seem to have had it pretty much figured out already!), but be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)
