Master Password Inconsistency / Problem...

I just -- over the weekend -- moved from a Standalone Platform (for iOS, macOS and Windows) to a Subscription Platform (for iOS, macOS and Windows)...I am having very serious Master Password ("MP") problem as follows:

  1. At first, macOS had all the letters in my MP as LOWERCASE while Windows had all the letters in my MP as UPPERCASE! Yikes!

  2. I then sent back into my.1password.com and changed my MP but this made things even worse. Now, macOS is still using my original MP with all the letters in my MP as LOWERCASE (i.e. it did not update) while Windows is now using the new MP with all the letters in my MP with the proper capitalization / case! Yikes again!

  3. This is a real problem and very confusing, please help.

Looking forward to your response!

Thanks,

Joel

@Joelc: Sorry for the confusion there! Indeed, when you setup different Master Passwords in different places that can happen. Happy to help you sort things out though.

At first, macOS had all the letters in my MP as LOWERCASE while Windows had all the letters in my MP as UPPERCASE! Yikes!

I don't know what you mean here though. "macOS had all the letters"? 1Password neither shows your Master Password nor saves it to disk, so it doesn't really "have" your Master Password at all. Did you maybe just have CAPS LOCK on when you set up 1Password on Windows?

I then sent back into my.1password.com and changed my MP but this made things even worse. Now, macOS is still using my original MP with all the letters in my MP as LOWERCASE (i.e. it did not update) while Windows is now using the new MP with all the letters in my MP with the proper capitalization / case! Yikes again!

Now you're confusing me, but I think there's a pretty straightforward solution:

    1. Verify that you can sign into your account in your web browser: https://start.1password.com/
    2. Verify that you have ALL of your data there: https://start.1password.com/vaults
    3. If your Master Password for your account isn't one you're happy with, change it: https://start.1password.com/profile
    4. Reset the app on any device where it isn't setup the way you want it: https://support.1password.com/starting-over/
    5. Setup 1Password by ONLY signing into your account with your current credentials -- including the Master Password you've set for it: https://support.1password.com/add-account/

Let me know how it goes!

    @ Brenty:

    1. No problem.

    2. By At first, macOS had all the letters in my MP as LOWERCASE while Windows had all the letters in my MP as UPPERCASE! Yikes! I meant that the MP contained all the correct letters but the letters were in lowercase.

    3. The solution your provided me worked. The MP on all platforms is now correct.

    Much thanks,

    Joel

PS. What is the syntax on this website for placing text in quotes as it is not the usual
insert text
?

This forum software uses Markdown. The greater-than sign (>) starts each line of quoted text.

Great! It sounds like you should be all set, but we're here if you need us. :)
