How to save new login from Chrome 1Password X

I have an existing login that fills in two fields. But, the website has changed their login page to require 3 fields.

In old 1P, either 1P would ask me if I wanted to update the login or I would go to 1P mini and ask to save (the new) login, and then delete the old one.

For this particular site 1P X did not ask me if I wanted to update the login, and I can't figure out how to accomplish what I could in v6/1P mini and have 1P create a new login with the new credentials.

Sorry...this should have been posted to the 1Password X forum. My apologies.

  • Thanks for reaching out to us about this, @camner. If you manually fill all three fields, does 1Password X show an option to Save in 1Password in the inline menu? If it does, then clicking that option should save a new Login item with all three values. If you don't see that option, can you let me know the following?

    • Which browser are you using 1Password X in?
    • What is the URL of the website?

I can understand if you'd rather not share the website URL. I'm just hoping to take a closer look and see how 1Password X behaves there for myself. Let me know if you'd rather share the URL privately and we can move this conversation to email.

No, filling in all three fields manually and submitting does NOT trigger anything from any part of 1P. I've tried this in both Safari and in Chrome, and the behavior is the same.

I certainly don't mind sharing the URL of the site. It is neither a porn site nor connected to the dark web or to Wikileaks or anything else I might not want the 1P universe to know I've been accessing.

I can actually give you two, both with American Airlines (two different ways of accessing my frequent flier account there).

    URL 1: https://www.aa.com/homePage.do
    URL 2: https://www.aa.com/loyalty/login/submit

  • Oh I can't believe you're using American Airlines! Any of those other types of websites you mentioned would have been better than that! 😂I jest I jest! Sorry but I couldn't resist. 🙂

So I went to the AA homepage and I was able shown the inline menu, along with a Save Login item:

That likely looks a bit different than what you're used to as I'm using the 1Password X beta. Quite a bit changed in the beta release so that might explain why this is working for me and not you.

I was also able to get the loyalty login page to behave in much the same way.

Ideally you'd give the beta a try as we're always pushing the envelope forward there and would love to have you part of our beta family. If that doesn't work for you, there is another way that might allow you to work around this issue: you can ctrl-click on the 1Password toolbar icon and select Save Login from there. It's not as nice as the inline stuff but it should work for you.

Please give either of those a go and let us know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

Somehow I missed the email notification of the last reply...sorry.

I'm afraid I can't get this to work for anything in the world! I WAS able to save a new login, but even though 1P saved the 3 fields (username/last name/password) correctly, when I tested it, 1P filled in the username/last name fields in reverse order, resulting in an invalid login.

On another subject, it appears that with the web interface, there is no way to edit the saved "web form details." I can VIEW them, but when I click the "Edit" button, those saved web form details disappear. I CAN edit them when I'm in 1P invoked from the Safari toolbar, though (which I believe is the old Safari 1P mini, yes?). The ability to edit the web form details is pretty useful, as from time to time 1P will save many extraneous fields that are not needed for the login and may in fact give information that was only relevant during during the web session during which the login was saved.

Oh, and I'm now using 1P X 1.8.1, if that matters.

@camner: Sorry for the trouble, and the delay getting back to you. Indeed, this is not working correctly with 1Password X currently. The saved "last name" fills in the username field, the last name field is left blank, but the password fills correctly. We'll see what we can do about this.

While it wouldn't help in this situation since 1Password X would still be filling incorrectly, you're right that it's nice to be able to edit web form details in a saved login sometimes. I can't promise that will come to the 1Password.com web interface, but it's certainly something we can consider.

On both counts, thank you for bringing this up!
