Windows 7 SP1: 1Password 7.2.581.0 crashes upon launch

Options

I am trying to switch over my data your 1Password subscription service. So I have installed the current 1Password (7.2.581.0) on two separate Windows 7 workstations (windows 7 Ultimate, Service Pack 1). On both workstations, 1Password crashes upon startup.

I emailed your 1Password "support" but never received a response.

Below is the Application Error in the Event viewer.

  • Hi @DC1Password,

    Thanks for reporting this.

Since you're using Windows 7, the first thing to check is to make sure you have .NET 4.6.1 or later installed. 1Password does require it but for some reasons on certain machines with Windows 7, Windows doesn't let you know that .NET needs to be installed or updated.

Can you try downloading the latest .NET 4.7.2 from here, install it, reboot your computer, check for all Windows Updates including optional updates to make sure all .NET updates are installed, and then reinstall 1Password, it should work now.

.net 4.7.2 resolved the issue. I must have missed that pre-requisite. You almost lost a long time customer over that issue.
    Thanks.

Not sure why you don't support windows default web browser IE with your current version. Doesn't really make sense to me.

  • Hi @DC1Password,

We don't support it because IE doesn't have the modern security APIs that all modern browsers have including Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. In order to provide support for IE, we would have to build a brand new (older and binary-based) plugin from the ground up for 1Password 7. It is not something we can do right now but we may reconsider in the future.

We do support Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, mainly because it supports the same technologies that all other modern browsers have.
