Single to Family Membership. I only want 1Pwd to be available on our mobiles; hence back-up issues?

Hi 1Ps,
I have been a lone subscriber/user for the past 2.5 yrs (17/3/16, version 7.2.2)
Purchased subscription 22/4/17 and love it. The family is now coming into age where I wish to get them started.

I do not a have Secret Pswd as yet.

I prefer to limit 1Password's family use to only our mobiles only - all iPhones - at present. Is this possible?

Do I need at least one PC application to enable backups or can this also be done on the phone (I'm still wary of icloud backups).
Is the Secret Pswd Key only provided after family membership or after registration?

Thanks
Allan C

  • Hi @Alca

I’d be happy to help with those questions:

    • There isn’t a way to limit what devices / types of devices people can use 1Password on.
    • Anyone with an account will be able to use any of our apps on any compatible devices.
    • 1Password accounts are automatically backed up through 1Password.com regardless of which device(s) you’re using.
    • Everyone who has an account has their own unique Secret Key.

    Thanks Ben

While I don't wish to dictate how other family members use the 1Password family acc. , I imagine I will still need to somehow manage the account. Please tell me how a Family Account can be set up within my current account so I can get things started.

    Thanks

@Alca: To get started, you'll need to sign into your account on the website:

    https://my.1password.com

On the right, click "Invite People" to send an invitation to family members and convert to a 1Password Families plan. This guide will take you through getting setup so you can securely share vaults with them ~and~ give them their own 1Password.com accounts as part of your family plan so they get all the same benefits you do:

    https://support.1password.com/family-sharing/

Be sure you each save a copy of your Emergency Kit, in case you ever need it:

    https://support.1password.com/emergency-kit/

But one really great thing that this enables is account recovery: you and any other people you designate as Organizers will be able to help other family members recover their accounts if they get locked out:

    https://support.1password.com/recovery/

Just make sure you setup billing for your new plan:

    https://start.1password.com/billing

That should get you started, but if you have any questions at all let us know. We're here for you. :)
