When invoking the 1Password using Ctrl+/ (in my case Ctrl+#) the window keeps flashing like crazy. It opens a duplicate window and they both flash. This has been happening for a few months now. I have a video of the issue, it's a small video just 3.61MB but I cannot attach it, can AgileBits provide me an email and reference number and I'll send as an attachment.

1Password Version: 7.3.619
Extension Version: 4.7.3.90
OS Version: Windows 10 18305
Sync Type: Folder Sync

@fcar - you're always welcome to send support requests to our team at support@1password.com. You'll get an automated reply from our BitBot assistant that will contain your Support ID number. 3.6MB isn't so large that our email system would reject it, but if you have troubles, you can always upload the video to Dropbox and share the link to it with us in your email instead.

    Hi @fcar,

Please file the bug reports in the Windows Beta forum if you're using a beta build, even if the issue has been appearing for a while.

Thanks for the video. These windows are the Save Login windows, not something comes up via Control + \.

You are likely seeing the flash because 1Password is trying to pick one window for you to unlock with but these aren't normal to show up. We'll look to make sure it only picks the most recent window but it generally shouldn't have more than one window.

You didn't see these Save Login windows before you try to bring up 1Password mini with Control + \? Do you remember trying to create a new account in that session?

I don't think these are duplicates, I think 1Password tries to save something but it wasn't able to focus the window in front of you, we had a few users that reported that bug (with multiple save Logins popping up behind the browser when they close it) but we haven't been able to reproduce it consistently.

  • Hi @fcar,

I'll test with Chrome password manager but yes, we generally do not recommend using multiple password managers at the same time, they can interfere with the operations.

    Hi @fcar,

You can turn it off in their settings; here is our guide for all browsers including Chrome: https://support.1password.com/disable-browser-password-manager/#chrome

You can also turn off the auto-sign in feature to prevent Chrome from reusing any saved passwords and you can delete any passwords that are already in 1Password in that same setting view.

  • Hi @fcar,

What about the PIN unlock option in 1Password for Android, we do support that: https://support.1password.com/android-pin-code/ and you can turn off Exit on Lock option.

But yes, it would mean Chrome on your Android device will be affected. There's not much we can do about this issue. You have two competing products trying to save and fill your data, they're going have an impact on each other.

  • Hi @fcar,

I think we're crossing wires. I'm only responding to your later question about how to turn it off, I wasn't saying it is not a bug as I'm still testing to see what the problem as we need to reproduce it before we can do anything to fix it. Right now, I'm not seeing anything like that but we'll keep testing.

And 1Password should be "reading" whatever is on the username and password boxes and know whether a password is new or has been changed and needs to be updated.

It cannot do that while it is locked. That's the problem, once it is locked, it cannot compare anything because everything is encrypted. For security reasons, we will always prompt to save when it is locked, this is to prevent any potential loss of new Login items.

That also means if you went through 2-3 sign-ins (such as Chrome filling in while 1Password is locked) then 1Password will prompt to save, it'll have two or three separate windows open waiting for you to unlock.

Unfortunately, right now, we don't have the ability to dismiss any Save Login window after it unlocks and knows it exists already. It is something we plan to improve in a future update.

  • Hi @fcar,

I can reproduce it on that site only, not on other sites even without Chrome involved. It looks like they're doing something weird with the login form that is causing 1Password to detect multiple attempts to login.

I'll let the extension team know and investigate it.

I removed the address as this is a family forum. Please, next time email us at support+windows@1Password.com next time if you wish.

I have no problem with the removal of the address, I did clearly say it is NSFW and I added spaces between the letters so it would not auto-generate a link. I don't mean to be pedantic but the term "family" forum is a bit pointless to people whose family may be composed of a childless structure (as you're probably using that term to mean child-safe). Perhaps PG-13 or something else would be better so you don't confuse users with semantics. Being a password manager I'm sure you guys will know your users will store data for porn sites on the application so if this support forum doesn't want certain links it should be highlighting that prominently on the form, it's too late to give me an email after the fact... clearly it was not my intention to break any rules, I just want to sort out this issue, but thanks anyway.

@fcar: Just to clarify, Lars did suggest emailing us in his first reply to you this morning.

Anyway, no harm done. Mike edited it. His intention was just to let you know that he did and why, to avoid the same issue in the future. :)

Generally we use the term "family-friendly", as this generally implies that kids may be present -- e.g. "family-friendly movie". We have plenty of experience on the internet and don't particularly care for us, but given that this is a technical support forum for our customers, we do want to make sure that no one feels uncomfortable here when they need our help. But we can consider phrasing it differently in the future, if that helps.

I had interpreted that you were telling me to disable Chrome's functionality to fix the issue, I would not consider that a fix as I know your app can co-exist with the built-in browser password manager.

To be clear, that's not really true. We don't and can't reasonably design 1Password to work kin an environment where it has to deal with conflicts and compete to save and fill login credentials. We always recommend disabling built-in browser password management features, not just because it's more convenient for more people to avoid dealing with the hassle and confusion ("Where are my passwords saved? 1Password, or the browser?"), but also because they often don't make it easy to get data out of them, and, perhaps most importantly, there are many known security and privacy issues with using them. Given all of that, it's not something we can even in good conscience take a neutral stance on. It's your prerogative if you want to use it, so long as you accept that there are consequences for your usability and security. We can't stop you.

Finally, it can also be really helpful to try disabling something that may be interfering to try to narrow down the problem and verify the conditions necessary to reproduce it. Since we're troubleshooting here, I think it was a good suggestion.

Yes it makes total sense that the app cannot read the data when it's locked. However when it's unlocked I am seeing the save/update password popup anyway so if it's supposed to know, well it's not...

As Mike mentioned, it's something specific to how that particular site is coded. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

I can't give you a list of sites but I am certain that this behaviour isn't just happening on this particular site, I've seen it happen before, if I spot it again I'll come back here to update with the relevant address. In the meantime if you require any debug logs, etc I will be happy to provide.

Don't hesitate to let us know the specifics of any other login filling/saving issues you encounter with 1Password:

    • Exact OS version
    • Exact 1Password version
    • Exact browser version
    • Exact extension version
    • URL where you're encountering the problem
    • Any other details of steps to reproduce

Just let us know either in the browser filling category of the forum, or shoot us an email at support+extension@1password.com so we can investigate. Thank you for all your feedback! :)
