Unsecured Website banner does not refresh after fixing the website url

This is a bug. See the attached screenshot:

I see the URL issue and I click edit and change the url to https://**. Previously, it was http://** because that was an old login from 2014 and scribd .com probably used http back then. The whole site is now https.

After editing to https, I click save and I still see this Warning banner on top.

Expectation: Banner disappears because the (right now, inexisting?) form check upon saving should have found out that the problem was resolved.

  • Hi @msxtj,

Thanks for reporting this. I've moved this to our Windows beta forum since you're using a beta build.

I am not able to reproduce this issue, it removed it right away.

If you create a new item with http://www.scribed.com, save it, wait for the banner to show up, and then edit it, does the banner go away within a few seconds?

The banner does not go at all. Here's a screen recording where I have >10 seconds as a demo. But that's enough to tell you that the banner never goes away.

On another note, how did you embed the gif so it renders right away? I had to attach my gif.

Edit: Got it - needed to attach as image.

@MikeT , answering your last question with a gif. Banner never even shows up to start with..

  • Hi @msxtj,

Notice the Rich Icon didn't show up either. Something is blocking the app from completing all network/watchtower events.

Please use this guide to generate the 1Password diagnostic report and email it to us at support+windows@1Password.com. Also, in the email, include the link to this thread along with your forum username, so that we can connect the email to this thread.

Let us know here when you've sent it, so we can confirm we got the email.

@MikeT Is network important for the test on http/https to work?

  • Hi @msxtj,

It shouldn't for the http banner itself but it can be blocked by other network calls like the Rich Icon request.

We've started to separate more and more of our network calls away from the main thread but it is not fully done and it'll take a few major updates to get there.

Have you sent in the report yet? I haven't seen it yet.

    Diagnostic sent.

And yes, indeed my 1password on Windows cannot connect to the internet due to 1Password Windows network limitations. This is another issue discussed on this thread (https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/483647#Comment_483647).

Anyway, just saying, the banner issue is, in my opinion, a low priority problem. Your software engineers should focus their energy on other more critical issues. 1Password Windows not able to connect to the internet through the proxy is a P1-critical hot issue and because of that I cannot sync my passwords on Windows since November 2018.

    Cheers.

  • Hi @msxtj,

Except that 1Password does connect fine for 99% of users, even with proxy. I have a proxy and it works fine. We do have to prioritize based on the number of users affected as well. We're not saying the issue is not important but we can't spend the entire development budget on a single issue, we are working on several projects at the same time.

We did try for a few weeks to fix that specific problem in the early stage of 7.3 development but it ended up with more edge cases than it helped to solve. We've been working on a separate project to rebuild the network subsystem but it is not yet done. However, because it is not yet done, we're not going to push 7.3 back just to get that fix in. It is coming soon, we are working on it but it is not done. We have a lot of network code that needs to be tested and validated.

Sure, if we are just a few people with the proxy issue, I could understand you take longer to get the fix rolled. I wrote an email to the support folks to extend my subscription free of charge until this issue is fixed. I basically need a subscription to sync my passwords across devices, which I can't at the moment. The free extension is naturally cheaper than spending a bug chunk of the development budget on this issue and I could accept that. I'm waiting for the support guys to get back to me by email. I wrote to them last week.

    Thanks..

  • Did you get an auto-reply to your support e-mail, @msxtj? We've been a bit behind following the holidays and I know I personally have quite a lot to catch up with on the Windows side of things, but if you can get me the support ID you received via autoreply, that will allow me to hunt down your e-mail so I can take a peek. :+1:

Hi @bundtkate , yes, the support ID is #RWA-15762-629

  • I've informed the sales team on that ticket but for now, you'd have to use 1Password 7.1 until we can fix the DNS issue, which is ongoing for a while and will be in 7.4.

FYI: I was able to reproduce it once I turn the network off, we'll fix it in a future update.
