Switch to New Machine

Hello, I have 1Password that I purchased in 2015 and when I try to get it on my new machine I am sent to the sign in with my secret key but I cannot find it. Is that because I need an upgraded license? Please advise.

  • Hi @cindymariesilva

Do you have a 1Password subscription membership? Only membership accounts have Secret Keys. If you do you can find your Secret Key using these instructions:

Find your Secret Key or Setup Code | 1Password

If you do not have a membership you can learn more about it here:

    About 1Password membership

If you'd like to upgrade instructions on migrating from your current setup to membership can be found here:

Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account

Membership is the best way to use 1Password, but it is also possible to continue to use 1Password without a membership. Licenses can be purchased, and are sold on a per-version, per-person, per-platform basis. Licenses are sold within the 1Password apps.

Hello Ben and thanks for the response. I did look through these but found it confusing as to migrate existing data requires me to login correct? I do not think I have a username and password. When I set it up I only added my license. This is where I am stuck.

@cindymariesilva: I'm sorry for the confusion. It sounds like you may be trying to login with a 1Password Account, but as Ben mentioned, you will only have one if you've signed up for a 1Password.com membership. That’s the only way you’ll have a Secret Key or Sign In URL, or be able to access your data through 1Password.com. Instead, you can use 1Password without an account and sync your data from another device or create a new vault.

However, you may want to consider a 1Password.com membership, since it gives you access to all of the apps, the web interface, and does away with license management and sync configuration altogether — you simply login to your account to authorize a device and access your data. You can try it for free for 30 days to take advantage of all of its benefits.

Either way, let us know if you have any other questions. :)
