My annual family account just renewed today for another year, which is great. However, it renewed using a credit card that I'm about to get rid of. Now I'll need to wait for the transaction to post, send a payment to get the balance back to zero, and wait for that payment to post before being able to close the account.
This could have been prevented with a reminder sent out, e.g., 7 days before a subscription is about to renew. If I had seen the last 4 digits of the card that was going to be used, I would have logged in and updated it. This seems like a pretty standard practice for services that are billed annually---just a thought!
