Bonjour,

Merci

Eric

Hi @EricM1967! Welcome to the forum!

If you don't see the Sync tab in the Preferences, it means that you are syncing your data through 1Password.com because you have a 1Password Membership. With a Membership, sync is automatic so you don't need to configure anything manually :)

Normally it's not necessary to use multiple sync method unless you know what you are doing, so to make sure we are on the same page: may I ask why you are trying to sync a vault with an external sync method when you have automatic sync through 1Password.com already?

    -

@EricM1967 - I understand -- and I applaud your focus on making sure your data is available, correct and backed-up. That said:

This is already accomplished with a 1Password account. The "canonical" copy of your data resides on the 1password.com servers, but each instance of 1 1Password app you have, where you've signed into your account, has a local copy of that data. Any changes you make to your data within the 1Password app is immediately recorded in the local cache. If you have an internet connection available at that time, it will also be synced with the server. If not, 1Password will wait until the next time a) it is open at the same time b) you have a connection. In other words: your local cache of your 1Password data on various devices IS your "perfect (synchronized) copy of it locally on my Mac." We use Amazon AWS as our server backend, and as you may be aware, their data redundancy and disaster recovery is without equal. If your devices are lost/stolen, as soon as you get new ones, just download/install 1Password and sign back into your account. If our data centers are destroyed (hard to imagine, but let's say a natural disaster of some kind), you would still have your local cache of the data, on every device you use 1Password on. Hope that's helpful! :)

    @EricM1967:

Local backups only backup local standalone vaults. If you data is stored on 1Password.com, backups are taken automatically by the server, not by the app :)

    -

@EricM1967 - to add to what ag_ana said, you're going down the wrong road with this. Turning on local vaults won't actually provide a backup of the data you have in your 1Password account, it will only create a separate local Primary vault, which won't sync with or be backed-up by your 1Password account vault. It will also require a separate Master Password and can cause other confusion/problems. Please turn that option off, unless you want to switch entirely back to standalone vaults and not have a 1Password account at all.

@EricM1967: You can export your data to manually make a backup:

    https://support.1password.com/export/

But this is not recommended, as it is less secure and reliable that 1Password.com. The encrypted data in your account is automatically backed up redundantly offsite. If you backup data yourself, you would need to encrypt it, and remember to backup regularly.

    Google translation:

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=en&tl=fr&u=https://support.1password.com/export/

    Thank's brenty,

Je viens de réaliser la sauvegarde comme tu me l'as indiqué. Cela fonctionne correctement.

Great! Indeed, right now our focus is on built-in backup since then everyone can benefit, but we would like to offer more options in the future. Thank you for the feedback. :)
