Changed master password on 1password 7, now am locked out of everything

I changed my master password in the 1password 7 app. Immediately after changing it, I tried locking and unlocking the 1password 7 app, but was not able to with my new password. I tried my old password and that did not work. I tried clicking the links to recover my password, but directions lead me to ask my family organizer to reset my account. I'm the only user of my family account. I can't log into my.1password.com either for my family account. I am pretty sure that I am using the correct password and have carefully typed it dozens of times to no avail. The only thing I can sign in for is 1passwordX with my old password, but I can't access any of my family account settings there.

Hi @1passwordissues! Welcome to the forum!

The only thing I can sign in for is 1passwordX with my old password, but I can't access any of my family account settings there.

1Password X is connected directly to your 1Password account, so if you are able to login there with your old Master Password, it means that you did not change it there. Because you changed the Master Password in the app, I suspect you might have a standalone vault in the app, and you changed the Master Password for that vault instead than for your 1Password account.

but I can't access any of my family account settings there.

Can you please clarify what you mean by this? Once you have unlocked 1Password X, you can access the 1Password.com web app. You just need to edit an item, for example, and 1Password X will open 1Password.com, where you can access your account settings.

I may have had a standalone vault at some point, but I upgraded to a family account and was able to move my vault to the family account.

Once you have unlocked 1Password X, you can access the 1Password.com web app. You just need to edit an item, for example, and 1Password X will open 1Password.com, where you can access your account settings.

When trying to edit an item, I am directed to the https://my.1password.com/signin page. This is the log in that I cannot access. When I follow the instructions for "Having trouble signing in?" I get an email, which leads me to a "View my account" page (https://start.1password.com/support/account/) and has a message stating:

You’re part of a family account and can request a recovery. Ask your family organizer to help you recover your account.

This article doesn't help me because the instructions lead me back to https://my.1password.com/signin, where I cannot log in.

I have been using the same password that I use for 1Password X to try to log into https://my.1password.com/signin but that does not work.

    @1passwordissues:

I may have had a standalone vault at some point, but I upgraded to a family account and was able to move my vault to the family account.

Did you remove the standalone vault from your 1Password app afterwards though? If you moved your items to your Families account but you left your standalone vault there, your 1Password app will keep unlocking with the Master Password for the standalone vault.

So if you then try to change your Master Password in the app, you won't be changing the Master Password for your account, just the Master Password of your standalone vault instead.

I have been using the same password that I use for 1Password X to try to log into https://my.1password.com/signin but that does not work.

If this is what is happening, then you might have created two 1Password accounts. I would like you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac and email it to us at support+forum@agilebits.com.

After you have sent the email, please feel free to post the ticket number you received so we can locate your message and connect your email with this discussion, so that whoever will help you via email will have all the information.

    Looking forward to your message!
