1Password 6, cannot login through browser. email address not recognized.

I purchased 1Password directly from AgileBits in 2013, not through the mac store and am now at version 6.8.9 (689001). I am unable to log onto 1Password through web browser. At sign in I'm prompted for a Secret Key that appears to be introduced with later versions. Change password does not recognize my email address. I have a legitimate family 5 user license.

What has changed? Why can I not log in through a web browser?

Thanks for you assistance,

Henry

  • Hi Henry,

Web access would be part of our membership options, such as those listed on https://1password.com/ A Secret Key is also part of a membership. https://support.1password.com/secret-key/ With your email not being recognized, that would likely be because you don't have an active membership and instead have a legacy license. If you purchased a standalone license through our web store in 2013, then you would indeed have a legacy license.

If you can provide details on what it is your trying to accomplish, I may be able to assist you. Perhaps your trying to set up a new installation?

    Hello Tommy,

My daughter, one of those on the family plan, was having difficulty syncing between two computers. She's about to deliver her laptop to Apple for some hardware work and we wanted to make sure her local copy of 1P was accessible on a second computer first, She couldn't get the two instances to sync. I suggested first to assure that 1P itself was syncing by adding an item in 1P then checking by logging onto 1P through a browser. This is where we ran into the Secret Key issue. Didn't the legacy product provide web access prior to the new installations? Is this not an option anymore?

I tried web access through my account and ran into the same issue. As a test I tried change password and received the notification that my email address was not recognized. This surprised me. Is there any account information in the AgileBits cloud that I can access regarding my account. Is web access completely gone with the legacy product?

To solve the immediate problem I had her export the database and import into 1P on the second computer so she could hand over the first. That worked and she's okay for now. When the first computer is returned we'll deal with syncing across the two computers.

Currently we're using dropbox as the cloud transport. Do others work as well such as Google or Onedrive?

    Thanks for the assistance,

    Henry

    @slohenry

Yes, it was called 1PasswordAnywhere, and it stopped working in 2016 https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/63045/moving-beyond-1passwordanywhere

Is web access completely gone with the legacy product?

If I understand you correctly, then yes, 1PasswordAnywhere ceased working as described in the above link.

Currently we're using dropbox as the cloud transport. Do others work as well such as Google or Onedrive?

No, and Google Drive nor OneDrive are not supported sync methods.

I would like to suggest that you take a look at our membership offering. In my opinion, the syncing works effortlessly, and it is far easier to set up than Dropbox. The membership does include web access, and it also gives you all the latest versions of the apps, provided your equipment can run the newest version. ALL with no more of those upgrade charges. You can read more about it here - https://support.1password.com/explore/get-started/

Memberships have minimum system requirements, and those can be found here - https://support.1password.com/system-requirements/

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I'll be more than happy to assist you.

2016? that's quite a while ago. Looking into upgrading the family plan. Will the current 1P vault on my local drive be recognized and imported? And wanting to get away from Dropbox where will the local vault reside? To make it easier point me to a document describing how the newer 1P works and differences from the version I currently have.

    Thanks again,

    Henry

I think I would suggest starting here https://support.1password.com/ You can input any terms you wish and see search results.

The local vault would be migrated into your account.
    https://support.1password.com/migrate-1password-account/

You data would be located on servers from 1Password.
    https://support.1password.com/regions/

There are several topic areas here in the forums covering memberships in general, Families, and Purchasing to name a few. Probably way more discussion than you wish to read.
