Etrade login problem

When trying to login to Etrade (www.etrade.com) automatically (ctrl-), I get the following error. Everything seems to be correct with my credentials as I can use the add-in to copy and paste the username and password and everything works fine.

This just started happening in the last 4 to 5 weeks.

1Password Version: 7.3.712
Extension Version: 4.7.5.1
OS Version: Windows 10 Pro version 1809 x64
Sync Type: 1password

Hi @heathlovell! Welcome to the forum!

This seems a problem with the specific website rather than with 1Password (as their error message also suggests).

Can you please let us know what browser this is happening with, so we can try to replicate the issue here?

    Thank you!

  • Hey @heathlovell could you please also let us know the exact URL you are trying to sign in on? Once I know that I'll see if any of my teammates have an E*TRADE account and are having troubles signing in using 1Password.

Hi @ag_michaelc, I am using www.etrade.com. From there, I am using the control - \ key combination to paste in the username and password. Thanks.

  • I don't see a login form there — is this the resulting URL you're filling on?

Any resolution to this? I'm seeing the exact same thing. Yes, using https://us.etrade.com/e/t/user/login.

If I manually type User ID, it works (I can copy/paste the password.
If I copy/paste User ID, it works.

If I simply Fill form, I can SEE my user id is entered correctly by 1Password, (and the password is entered as ***), but login fails with the error.

It would appear an actual keystroke is required within the User ID field?

    Hey @pbuck ,
Have you tried creating a new login for this website?
    1. Go to https://us.etrade.com/e/t/user/login
    2. Manually fill in your credentials and save a new login with this method: https://support.1password.com/save-login-manually/
    3. Refresh the page and try to autofill with the new login you just saved.

If you have a membership account with us, I also suggest you give 1Password X a try and see if it works properly there: https://support.1password.com/getting-started-1password-x/

    Creating a new login worked.

So I compared my old and new 1Password login entries, looking at "Saved Form Details":

    • The "old" no-longer-working login included a form field for "target" which included a URL, presumably the "preferred portfolio to view first".
    • The "new" login did not include that form field.

So, I removed that particular Web Form Detail, and retried & the old login worked again.

I'm glad to hear a new login did the trick, @pbuck .
Websites change over time, and sometimes that means 1Password needs to record the new changes in the login page, otherwise it will still try to autofill the "old" login page and that won't work :)

I'm having the exact same problem. If I use 1password's autofill function, I get the "unable to process your request" message. If I copy and paste from 1password, login is successful. One clue that might help you resolve this, is that when I contacted E*Trade, they said that my unsuccessful login attempts weren't showing up on their servers. So the message appears to be generated locally in Javascript. Note that this is taking place on a Mac running Catalina using Chrome or Safari (same exact behavior with each browser). Obviously this isn't an urgent problem, as I can use copy and paste, but I do consider it a bug because 1password should work as intended on this site. Thanks!

    Hey @Orion,
Have you tried the fix that worked for others here? Simply create a new login for this website and see if that new login works. Here are the instructions again:
    1. Go to https://us.etrade.com/e/t/user/login
    2. Manually fill in your credentials and save a new login with this method: https://support.1password.com/save-login-manually/
    3. Refresh the page and try to autofill with the new login you just saved.

I'm having this same, exact problem and it doesn't matter which browser I use (Safari, Brave or Firefox). What I have found, is that if I Copy & Paste my credentials from 1Password into the website fields, I can login. However, if I have 1Password autofill the credentials, they're not accepted, and I receive the error above.

On the iPhone/iPad, using autofill works just fine with eTrade on Safari.

    Hey @kappabear ,
Can you please try the steps I described in the reply above your message here? It seems to work for everyone here.
